My Debut Post
Hi all! I’m Maya and this is my first post here on Tumblr.
Below is a poem I had written a while back but didn’t have the courage to post until today. Hope you all will read it and like it.
The Tiny Bird
Seeing the dark sky, the hidden moon
And the faintly twinkling lone star,
Feeling the cold air of the woods
And hearing the howling wolves from afar –
The tiny bird cannot help but wonder,
“What am I doing here?”
“The green meadows,
The sweet clear water of the waterfall,
The trees, the flowers and the sun,”
Thought the tiny bird, “I truly miss them all.
Should I really go ‘There’?
Should I really leave a place so fair?”
“‘The world “There” is not a place
For a tiny bird like you’, said the wise.
Should I leave my meadows for a place
Where a weakling like me dies?”
The tiny bird asked itself as upon
The waning crescent, it gazed.
“No! No! No!” it whisper-screamed
Shaking its head,
“Tiny – yes, I am;
But weak should I never be considered.
Prey – why, yes, I am;
But a coward should I never be considered.”
“The pastures were serene and safe, indeed.
But, of such a mundane life, I have no need.
Why must I know only a waterfall’s looks,
When I can see the oceans and the brooks?
Why must I only flit amongst these flowers,
When I can roam around in those distant towers?”
“Why must I live my days out in the meadows here,
When I can visit the world out ‘There’?
Why must I let myself be controlled by others
When I know how to handle my matters?
Why must I stay still and watch the world pass by
When I have my wings to help me fly?”
“‘The hawks will hunt you down;
You will be eaten by the cats of the town’,
The wise had said. But I had given the reply,
‘I know, I know. But, before, in such a way, I die,
I want to know the world out ‘There’.
Yes, I am afraid and very much so.
But I will go down the path I chose
Irrespective of my fears and foe.’”
The tiny bird proudly reminisced these
And reached the forest’s edge with ease.
Flying over many a landscape,
It beheld wondrous sights so different
From the one it had an escape.
And, thus the tiny bird, in whom
None would believe,
Lived its life the way it wished to live.
Thank you so much for reading my poem. And I would certainly love to know your thoughts about it. Anyways, I got to go now. So, goodbye until the next time we meet. Stay safe! Stay happy! :)
