Visual Studio Code
Here is some followup after Microsoft’s announcementof Visual Studio Code. I installed it on an Ubuntu system and used it as my editor today.
This is NOT an IDE as I had originally thought. It is a code editor. It has very nice syntax highlighting and seems to support many formats. It does well with Java.
The features are still sparse, but this has been touted as a preview, so they are still working on it.
It is definitely working just fine on Linux.
It can debug Node.js and Mono. I keep wanting just a general build option.
The UI is lean and nice, but I find myself heading to the menus more than I do with other editors and IDEs.
I am disappointed because I want it to be more full-featured. Except for git integration, it is just an editor. I hope they add more to give it more development tools.
