BokuAka scenario where they meet up at a Fukurodani reunion party on Christmas Eve and Bokuto, who had just realized his feelings for Akaashi, hatches a plan.
He’d worn one of those headbands with a hook on top, holding a red ribbon and a sprig of mistletoe.
So… anyone who got close to Bokuto would have to kiss him!
He planned that when it was Akaashi’s turn to kiss him, he’d tell him his feelings. It would be the perfect holiday confession!
It was going well at first. The mistletoe was definitely working—Yukie and Suzumeda had both stood on their tip toes and pecked him on each cheek. Komi had dramatically taken his hand and kissed his knuckles.
A begrudging Konoha, clearly annoyed, had just kissed the tip of his own middle finger and flicked Bo on the nose. Washio refused (he’d brought his girlfriend to the party, after all).
Saru, confident and unabashed, went all the way, grabbing Bokuto’s face and kissing him full on the mouth. Everyone cackled as he strutted away with a fist in the air.
So yeah, it was working. Except on the person Bokuto had bought the headband for in the first place.
Akaashi was keeping his distance. Whenever Bokuto tried to talk to him, there was a table or another person in between them. His eyes widened every time Bokuto approached, and he kept going to the bar and keeping his lips busy with drinks and snacks.
Bokuto frowned, unsure if his friend was avoiding him on purpose. Did he really not want to kiss Bokuto? Was he disgusted?
When Akaashi excused himself, heading down the hall towards the bathroom, Bokuto saw his chance. He hurried after him, ignoring his former teammates’ knowing gazes.
He knocked on the door. After a few moments, it opened a crack. Akaashi’s face appeared, hesitant and nervous. “Bokuto, please go away.”
Bokuto felt his heart sink to his stomach. “O-oh.” He moved back a step. So that was it, then. He didn’t like him back. “Okay then. I’m sorry.”
Akaashi’s eyes softened. “Bokuto-san…”
“No, really! I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I would’ve never even bought this thing if I knew you didn’t want to…”
“That’s not it.”
Bokuto blinked. “Huh?” He said again.
Akaashi sighed, opening the bathroom door just enough for Bokuto to enter. “Come in.”
When they were both inside, away from the prying eyes of their friends, Bokuto reached up toward his headband. “I’m sorry again!” He cried. “I can take it off…”
“Don’t.” Akaashi’s long fingers gripped his wrist, stopping him. Bokuto watched as his friend took a deep breath, long eyelashes fluttering before opening again. Their gazes locked.
The air between them was thick. Bokuto was acutely aware that his mistletoe was now perfectly hanging over both of them, and he tried his best to be patient despite his racing heart.
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” Akaashi said, voice wavering. He bit his bottom lip nervously (Bokuto willed himself not to stare).
“It’s just… I’m afraid that if I did kiss you… well, I wouldn’t want to stop.”
It took a moment for the words to sink in. When they did, Bokuto’s jaw dropped open, expelling the breath he’d been holding. “R-really?”
Akaashi nodded. He wasn’t looking away, so neither did Bokuto. “Do… do you want me to kiss you, Bokuto-san?”
Bokuto, unable to speak, just nodded furiously. Akaashi chuckled. Slowly, he released his hold on Bokuto’s arm and hesitantly slid both hands up and around his neck.
“Okay.”
A chorus of cheers and wolf-whistles erupted when they emerged from the bathroom ten minutes later, hand in hand, hair and clothes noticeably rumpled.
“Get it, Akaashi!” Saru howled, as Yukie reached over to hi-five Bokuto as he passed.
Konoha rolled his eyes. “Where’s your mistletoe?” He asked as the new couple settled down together on the couch.
Bokuto smirked. “Don’t need it anymore! I am officially off the market. None of you better even try to kiss me again tonight!”
