I knew I liked boys a long time ago. I can’t even tell you how old I was. I was 14 when I told my mom though. I wrote her a note and slid it under her door before going outside to play. I’ll never forget coming back in later that day. She gave me one of those special Mom hugs and told me it didn’t matter. I got lucky. Many people are disowned or worse when coming out. I wish I could rub some of 12 year old me’s courage off on anyone who is afraid.
