but then I hear "stop running" which ok cool, that's fine. and the kid says no. you know, like kids do sometimes. and the mom says "say no one more time " (or something like that, I don't remember exactly) and now I'm on like high alert because that phrasing is just... I don't know how to explain it if you don't know why that phrase would make me super uncomfortable. and then she goes on to say "between you and your dad, you're both going insane." and "you are 5 years old. you need to get it through your head that you're 5 years old. life will be a whole lot easier when you do."
and I'm just standing there thinking... do you really think that your five year old child is going to understand what you mean when you say that? because that's a pretty nuanced meaning (I'm in charge. I'm the adult and you're the child. You have no authority because you are a child and you need to respect my authority because I'm an adult.) and children tend to be pretty literal. also comparing whatever problems you're having with your husband (I'm assuming, idk. co-parent.) to your child misbehaving is really super inappropriate.
idk. there wasn't really a point to this. I was just super uncomfortable with the way this woman was talking to her kid.
