5 Poisoned Butter Brands to Avoid | Ben Azadi
Bunge (Vegetable Oil - Seed Oils, Soyabean/Canola Oil = Promote Inflammation/Insulin Resistance/Hormone Imbalance) Avoid anything labelled "butter blend" bc it is just industrial oil disguised as dairy.
Cabot Creamery [2:00] Several of its products include added natural flavours & colour stabilizers, these usually come with a carrier oil—often soyabean oil or sunflower oil. In 2025 recalled 1700Lbs of butter due to contamination with traces of fecal bacteria (yummy!) that shows poor sanitation or cross contamination, which matters bc oxidation & cross-contamination together can turn dairy fats into inflammatory compounds. If Cabot doesn't list seed oils directly, their use of flavour carriers & large scale blending makes their purity questionable.
Land O Lakes [2:45] Use Canola blend, contains upwards of 40% seed oils by weight. Canola oils are highly processed, deodorized, and rancid before it even hits the shelf. Studies show the unstable omega 6 fats that are oxidized, enter the blood stream—raise inflammation, and increase small LDL particles which damage your arteries. This is a direct hit to your metabolism & heart health. And finally there is the labelling chaos, so if it says spreadable/canola/blend—leave it on the shelf. Real butter doesn't need vegetable oils to spread.
Walmart Great Value [3:38] This is the house brand of Walmart, and its butter is not consistent nationwide, some region use pure butter. But others quietly swap in soyabean or monoglyceride or diglycerides; independent labs have found some versions do not even qualify as a butter bc they are well below accepted minimum dairy fat levels. Mono & diglycerides are emulsifiers that mimic transfats in the body: interfering with insulin signalling, elevating triglycerides which is fat in your bloodstream—and worsening belly fat!
Challenge Butter [4:25] looks clean on the label, just cream & salt, but multiple consumer reports have noted oxidation issues, grainy texture, and rancid smells—all signs the butter's fatty acids have degraded due to poor food chain handling, once those fats oxidize, they behave like seed oils in the body—creating lipid peroxides that damage mitochondria & accelerate aging. Their flavoured butters & whipped lines contain soya lechithins a natural flavour blend suspended in oil carriers—even if it starts out clean, storage failures can turn this into a toxic butter.
Mitochondria are organelles in eukaryotic cells that act as the "powerhouses" of the cell by generating most of the chemical energy needed to power biochemical reactions. They convert the food we eat and the oxygen we breathe into a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which provides the energy for cellular functions. Mitochondria have a double membrane, their own DNA, and are involved in many other cellular processes, including calcium storage, cell signaling, and regulating cell death.
Soya lecithins are a mixture of phospholipids derived from soybeans, used as a natural emulsifier, stabilizer, and thickener in food, cosmetics, and supplements. In normal doses, lecithin may cause side effects. These can include stomach aches, diarrhea, or loose stools. It isn't known what symptoms would occur if you take too much lecithin. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should talk to their healthcare providers before taking any supplements.
A Few Good Men: Genuine Butter Brands [5:09]
Kerry Gold: Pure Irish Butter, imported from Ireland—they use mostly grass fed cows on mineral rich Irish pastures; no seed oils & no fillers (lecithins). Label must say "Product of Ireland" or it has been reformulated for longer shelf life.
Vital Farms [5:59] fuel not friction for your metabolism.
Questions [7:38] Ghee is butter without lactose.
The half life of these bad fats is 680 days, so if you stop eating them today—they stick around your cell membrane & mitochondria membrane & remain in your body two years later suffocating the cells. So it takes about 6 years for 95% of it to be replaced.
