Do you remember when the article talking about when Jay and the circumstances of how she met Dan hit the press? It was devastating to Louis and his family and I always thought it was some sort of punishment because why would a newspaper talk about that for a private person. Also Louis had babygate but Lottie had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to launch her career and Jay got to host the Believe In Magic ball. Simon knew how to motivate Louis.

I do, yes. At the time I wasn’t heavily invested in One Direction but I remember Louis kicking off about the Mirror, which was entirely unsurprising to me since they’re (if even possible) worse than The Sun. To call it a newspaper is a farce. They wrote some trash article about me once so I didn’t even bother finding out what it was about. 

However, I thought about that article around when Babygate began and in hindsight I suspect that the article was the beginning Louis was being personally targeted, as no other members of the band had any kind of heinous tabloid fodder about their families like that. If it weren’t for This Is Us I genuinely don’t think I’d have any idea who Niall’s family was. But for some reason, this article came out, and I can almost guarantee there is only one circumstance under which this article was ever allowed to see the light of day, and that was because Simon Cowell allowed it to be published.

Any piece of news that is tied directly to One Direction and coming out of a UK source such as The Sun or The Mirror is brought to the attention of their PR people first and often stories like this are bought or the newspaper is provided with a different exclusive to bury this kind of story. Aside from individual sources telling a story themselves via Twitter or Instagram (hello 5SOS drama and Rob Kardashian), if it is printed in a newspaper there absolutely ways for it to be stopped before going to print. 

The fact that Lottie got a job through One Direction is great and all, but this lends itself to another aspect of abusive relationships in which there is a clear punishment and reward system where the punishments are beyond extreme. That article, which by the way has been erased from the internet, was essentially slander and it happened in 2013 right around the time that Louis’ behaviour began to change quite drastically. There shouldn’t be a constant trade off of punishment and then grand gestures to gain someone’s trust again. 

I do believe that Louis would genuinely do anything to protect his family, however he should never have been put in that position in the first place.

I was very curious about the absence Zayn from the Business Insider too. What we don't know is the time span in which the averages were determined. It has only been in the last two years when Zayn's SM has flourished. For example he is outpacing Harry's IG followers by at least 7 to 1 on a monthly basis. At one point he had the least amount of followers and now he has the most. Statistics can be manipulated, it's the trends and the trajectory that needs to be evaluated.

Usually in such (pseudo) statistics they take under consideration the last three or six months. Even if we’re talking for a six months window, then Zayn should have been in this pool. As for the trends, I do not recall anything trending from the accounts of the other 3 Boys, so no luck there either... Anyway, Business insider is not the most “reliable of venues” so I think they didn’t even look hard for evidence for their report.
