Many people are surprised to find out that the police do not protect & serve us. Many people believed there is a Cap America inside all of us that we can simply summon when needed and suddenly we'll have all situational knowledge when there is an active situation.
It's a delusion that creates inaction.
That community didn't need to provide militarized gear to its officers in 2018, they may have only required a truancy officer at the high school (as that was one of the only concrete signs for this 18 year old). They needed community resources as Black Lives Matter activists have been saying, much to the dismay of status quo protectors, "defund the police" as they cannot be trusted to solve all of these problems with force, and the money can be better used to serve the community by funding services and resources.
At the end of each of these situations, we find that unregulated access to guns is the problem, as well as ready access to the ammunition that goes inside. Full stop.
Anything making our schools feel like prisons with armed guards at every corner is not what will save Americans, it's a slippery slope to have armed guards in every public space to enforce how free and safe we are. Regulating ourselves with common sense will make the biggest impact for the future.
