In every society from the Baroque and Classical periods to the modern day amplified pop and rock concert, live music has been there to capture our emotions and serve as a release from our daily lives. It can be a voice of rebellion, the vehicle for an idea, or an expression of love and heartbreak.
Live music brings people together in the present; it happens and it’s over, and a number of people lived it for a number of minutes. Photographs freeze the moment and extend its reach. A silent image can carry the punch of an entire moment—the sound, the energy, raw live experience-- whatever happened between the musician, the stage, and the audience, even though that moment faded long ago. A photograph can take someone there.
Although SHOW covers recent photography of live music since the mid-sixties, from large scale concerts to the smallest club shows, the unity and excitation transcend any moment in time. Please join us in an examination of that excitement.
