MUTATION

Calming speech. Kevin’s mutation is that he’s able to calm people down simply by talking to them. This is very helpful when he’s in trouble (which he is a lot) or when he’s working on a difficult patient (which also happens a lot). It hid in plain sight for years before Kevin finally figured out what was going on. He had always been good at talking his way out of trouble and calming others down. His control can be slippery at times. After years of unknowingly using his mutation, it’s not at all difficult to find himself in the process of using it without actively thinking about. It is stronger in combination with a physical touch but doesn’t work on touch alone. And if Kevin isn’t calm, he finds that his rather helpful mutation simply slips out of his grasp.

BACKGROUND

Kevin came to Mutant Town upon the discovery of his own mutation. His parents weren’t mutants and knew little about it. And while Kevin loved his family, his neighborhood hadn’t been very friendly once they discovered a mutant was among them. So Kevin had snuck away to avoid any further attacks on his family and found himself in the only place that seemed relatively accepting. 

He splits his time and EMT skills between the Medical Clinic and Safe Passages. Having moved here on his own and without much to help him, Kevin had found himself with the large percentage of homeless people in the town. It’s not rare to find him at either location, putting his EMT skills to good use in exchange for a place to sleep that night. 

In the bit of spare time that Kevin finds he has, he enjoys just causing a bit of harmless trouble. Nothing in comparison to the gangs and other crowds in the town, but something to keep his occupied for a while til his next call. He pretends he can be a graffiti artist but it’s more than likely he’ll be back the next day, helping the owner clean it up. His other definition of harmless fun is going into the stores and switching stuff around on them. No stealing, but moving merchandise from one location to another. Nothing huge but to him it’s a bit of fun and worth it. After all, he’s more than able to talk himself out of the trouble if caught.

The truth is this guy needs to start making new friends, and just like in high school, the best way to do that is extracurriculars.
