Even years later, she still has trouble regulating her tone. Maybe she sounded too harsh. Maybe that’s why Jiang looks so miserable. Leaning back into her seat, back straight against firm wood, she glances at the blank worksheet in front of her.
If one thing doesn’t work, try another.
“Next time, tell me beforehand if you are busy,” she pauses, consciously attempting to soften her word, “so I can prepare something else.” Another awkward pause stretches. “I’m not mad.” She adds rather oddly.

While good at sports, Lynn’s strength lies in sprints and throws. She is good at ensuring outcome but not so much in guaranteeing entertainment. Performance to her are numbers and grades, measured and quantified.
Watching Jiang dance, her brows furrow. She is nervous but refuses to show it. Memorising every move while simultaneously coming up with an excuse, she starts grinding her teeth.
“It would be nice if you showed as much enthusiasm in maths as you do your dance,” she looks at him, hoping he will take the bait and let this go.
