Kellin looks up from the picture that she's editing -one of Lucca and Scarlett locked in what looks to be a pretty compromising embrace, the other redhead with a leg hooked around his hips. It's from the showcase that they had over the summer just before fall term started again, and she was putting it both in her portfolio and her boyfriend's. Scarlett hadn't needed it because she'd chosen other shots, but it was still fairly fantastic in terms of the shots that she had gotten. Shaking her head at Savannah -who she knew for a fact had dated Lucca, and despite her demeanor on the matter, was less over Lucca Byron than she was over Hayden Whitaker, and went back to fixing the coloring she was tinkering with.
“There’s nothing going on between Scarlett and Lucca. They’re, like, partners. They might as well be copilots.” She rolls her eyes. “They just have a really stellar friendship.”
“If you say so.” Savannah mutters, and Kellin takes a deep breath, reminding herself that she needs to finish tis picture before she can leave the lab. Lucca and Scarlett are practicing in the auditorium anyway. Blending classical ballet and hip-hop, Scarlett’s style and Lucca’s respectively. She’d been capturing pictures of the practices, Lucca shirtless and in his sweats and Scarlett with her Plumbrooke sweater falling off one shoulder, both drenched in sweat and dancing until Kellin was almost sure their feet were killing them and they had to limp out of the practice hall. It was no issue, though.
“I'm just saying,” the other photographer says, the opinion an unsolicited one. “Partners have become lovers before.”
Kellin breathes deeply through her nose, praying to the nerd gods for the strength to not double fist punch this girl in the face. “Thanks for that, I’ll keep that in mind.”
She finishes the picture as quickly as possible, gathering her books and camera things and hurrying to the practice hall. She collides with a tall boy in the shadow of the doorway, the only Twenty One Pilots song that Kellin knows wafting into the hallway.
“Nah, lil bit, my bad!” the boy exclaims with a slight smile. Glancing back into the room, his breath audibly catches, and Kellin looks into the room. Scarlett has her head tossed back and laughing as Lucca dips her low, swatting at his shoulder with a bright grin as she reaches down and stops the iPod, rewinding the song.
“Have you never seen them dance before?” Kellin asks. The tall boy shakes his head, hands shoved deep into his pocket.
“They’re…. Really good.” The boy breathes. Kellin watches his eyes follow Scarlett’s movement, the way that the redhead spins around her partner, the way Lucca’s arm catches her waist and pulls her close, watching the way that her sister’s leg hooks behind the back of Lucca’s and the way her arm gracefully sweeps through the air, caressing the left side of Lucca’s face on the way down.
She smiles, quickly taking the lens cap off of her camera and snapping a handful of pictures in quick succession of the pair. They’ve been getting really good at this, the dance all choreographed by themselves. She only knows because working on the stuff that he choreographed always wore Lucca out, which resulted in really great snuggles despite the fact that Kellin was totes not supposed to be in her boyfriend's dorm afterhours.
“Are… are they doing this for a final, or something?” he asks.
Kellin shrugs. “I think they’re working toward the winter showcase, but I’m not sure. Could just be a personal project.”
He nods slightly, starting to turn away and Kellin stops him, clearing her throat slightly.
:”Her name’s Scarlett, by the way. Dance major, my older sister. Also totally single.”
The smirk on his face is one of shame. “That obvious?”
“Zetus lupetus, you’re over the moon.” She laughs. “I could put in a good word for you?”
He laughs. “Nah, I’m sure I’ll see her around.”
