the fehr sisters aha
clementine fehr could not be called his better half, because, they were both too stupid, too reckless, and too hard headed for either of them to ever be thought of as ‘the good twin’. there was little time spent away from each others side, always on the same page about bad ideas and mind-blowing stunts to pull. from the time they could walk they were always up to something; selling lemonade mixed with various pills from their parent’s bathroom, hiding in the back of stranger’s trucks to see where they’d end up, even trying to switch places at school despite being non identical twins of different genders. they were partners in crime, and theo just couldn’t imagine life without clem by his side. he’d tried and failed to make it on his own in la, a few months without her nearly more than he could take. no one understood him like her, their outdated lingo and dirty hand signals, their secret rituals like the three am gas station hotdog eating contest or why he always wore his shirts inside out on tuesdays.
she was his best friend.
elisabeth fehr was doomed from conception. there was no way for her to live up to the wild stories that surrounded her last name, no way to separate herself from the legend of the fehr twins. they’d never had much interest in her, giving her a brief chance to ‘fit in’ with them when she was 8 and quickly realizing it just wasn’t going to happen. after that the twins never really gave her a second thought, and their parents weren’t much better. the twins always came first, intentionally or not. lis may as well have been living on the moon for all the attention she received. at home or at school she was never more than an afterthought, something forgotten and then given the briefest moment of attention before moving on. theo would be hard pressed to tell you one thing about her besides the fact that she didn’t talk much.
she’s been missing the last year and a half and it’s been a total bummer. it was part of the reason theo finally left their hometown, though he wasn’t sure he could admit it. it just seemed like if there ever was a time lis should be the center of attention… it had to be now. the whole situation is pretty fucked but… she’s only missing. she could’ve just ran away, you know. she’d been talking about some older guy she’d been kinda hanging with.. it’s probably all okay.
