"Now, this is just lovely, isn’t it?” The tone of Marya’s question made it clear that no was not an acceptable answer. She was poised in the lounge chair with her drink -- a perfectly crafted cocktail that swirled with a magical garnish that definitely made it look pretty and probably make it taste sweet -- held out ready for a cheers. It wasn’t polite to focus too much on her own accomplishments, but she still felt some praise was deserved for the nicely planned evening.
The bar flickered with a delicate candlelight that perfectly accented the light chatter and piano that filled the room. The tucked away location became a favorite of Marya’s back when she was first married, before Nathanial came along. When Tyler had to work late, in any sense of the words, she and the other society ladies would come here to gossip and subtly one up each other and sip the appropriate amount of alcoholic drinks.
It had been awhile since she had made her way back. So, when she was presented with the opportunity to plan a celebration in honor of Geraldine’s birthday, she jumped at the chance. Not that Geraldine had asked or even, perhaps, wanted her to. But then, when the Marya whirlwind began, it was difficult to stop it in it’s tracks.
“I’m having flashbacks of so many nights spent here. And, now, I am making new memories with a new friend. How is your drink? Do you just love it here?”
