Normally, she wasn’t allowed any extended period outside. Her life was spent mostly in seclusion, under lock and key--the magical variety, usually. To be out, even on the street, in shops, something so simple, was completely liberating. Any chance of true freedom though--could she risk it?
Her father had left her in the care of two of his most capable, powerful bodyguards. Getting past them would be difficult, but she might be able to manage it. It would throw all of her best laid plans out the window, but she was anxious, edgy. If she didn’t take this opportunity, if she didn’t at least try, she knew she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.
She waited for opportunity and when the guards waited with her at the crosswalk, she broke away from them. Heedless of the traffic, she ran, weaving through vehicles. A horn honked but she ignored it. She was preternaturally fast, and when she made it to the other side of the street, she didn’t slow--she wouldn’t slow either, not until she was as far away as she could get. Even if this freedom was short-lived, it would be worth it. Longer would be even better.
The door opened. She saw it, saw a figure emerge from it, but she couldn’t stop. She was going too fast. When she collided, she collided hard and fell.
