Light cascaded into the room as their bodies lay intertwined, sheets wrapped around them. Nicholas’ gaze remained fixed on Vera as she practically glowed, her head resting against his chest, their breath finally starting to even out. He places a soft kiss on her forehead as she looks up at him, his gaze wanting to take in every detail of her in that moment. Every time he didn’t think it was possible to love her anymore, she amazed him more and more. He brought his free hand to draw a finger along the side of her face, brushing a piece of hair aside, smiling gently towards her. “You’re beautiful.” He muses, his voice soft against the quietness of the world around them. He was amazed at how happy she made him. He’d thought after everything he’d been through in Italy, with Rose, and finding out that the entire time he’d been mind controlled, that he wouldn’t be able to open himself up to anyone else ever. But then there was Vera, true and steadfast, with more love than he often knew what to do with, making him feel like he was whole again. It was hard to believe that he hadn’t always been like this, the two of the, in love and taking on the rest of the world. The smile played on his lips as a soft laugh rose from his throat, pulling her even closer than before. He leaned forward, lips connecting with hers for a lingering and passionate kiss—a thank you for being so wonderful. Once they finally parted again, he drew in a breath, trying to catch his own. “You know, at this rate, we may never leave this bed again.” He lets out a breathy chuckle, a large part of him wishing that could be true.
