Tom wondered why he let his fucking friend talk him into this. It was safe to say that Tom was not much of a dater- in fact, he hadn’t dated much of anyone aside from his high school girlfriend and his wife, both of which were not relationships that had long since seemingly expired more his wife than Hazel, as Hazel’s was a completely mutual agreement, and he’s happy for her. Tom simply didn’t fit well into the dating scheme; being an outcast in school, that punkass kid that dealt with the perils of the foster care system when it went wrong, perhaps he had become rather cynical when it came to the notion of dating. It had been two and a half years since his wife had disappeared, though, and his closest friend- not to mention, the right-hand man in his little business on the side that was run right out of the notorious city of Baltimore- had conned him ironic, isn’t it into a blind date. With who, he had no fucking clue. Finding himself sitting in a restaurant with nothing but a time and a place given to him as any sort of hint of where he would be meeting this girl, he drummed his fingers on the table after he had set his phone facedown, waiting patiently for her to show up and ordering his drink in the meantime. Something simple with just a twist of alcohol to soothe any nerves he was feeling. Despite not being too thrilled about the blind date, he was curious about who would be showing up. Anyone who knew him knew he would prefer someone with a little bit of rebellion, mixed with some amount of kindness. For as feisty as Thomas was, there was a soft undertone, some sort of comforting soft place to land, balancing him out. Today, he could only account that for his daughter. Fidgeting with his hands, absently twisting the rings on his fingers- the wedding band, of which, he had finally removed and put away somewhere in a drawer, finally admitting to the world his wife was gone, gone, gone- his green eyes moved from the absent spot he was staring at blankly to fixate on the woman approaching the table. “You wouldn’t happen to be kidnapped or bribed or blackmailed to be here on a blind date, would you?” he inquired, smirking. Real charming, Tom. “Cause if you fucking are- I think you’re at the right place.” Great pickup line.
