"I ordered a trenta iced green tea, no syrup with a splash — a tiny little splash — of cold soy milk. And this," Madisyn held up the atrocity in her cup. "Is neither a splash, nor soy. My tea is drowning in oat milk!" She knew she should have just went to one of the few chains located a couple blocks down, but unfortunately to succeed in a town like Blue Harbor, you had to support the local businesses. Scratch their backs et cetera et cetera .
If only they employed people who could note down fucking drink orders.
The barista stuttered out their apologies, promising to make Madisyn a new drink asap, and she smiled saccharine sweet, glancing around the small coffee shop as if to say 'yes, this is how you get shit done'. Until her eyes locked with a very familiar blonde walking through the door, face dropping dramatically.
"Actually it's fine." She whipped around to the barista, grabbing back the sludge from their grasp. "It's fine. I'll take it as it is."
The barista began to question her sudden change of mind, and all Madisyn wanted to do was leave before...
It was like a black cloud had loomed over an otherwise perfect summer day as her former business partner and the ruiner of her life closed the space between them, and Madi fixed her smile back in place, valley girl accent exaggerated, voice an active higher than it ought to be. "Gracie, hi. What are the odds?"
