Essentially a live-action cartoon for children, C.H.O.M.P.S. is replete with alarming close-ups of a dogs' glowing yellow eyes and of it barking train whistles and gunshots with its mouth. Because C.H.O.M.P.S. is a crime-fighting robot dog.
We're introduced to him after a lengthy prologue establishing the world of C.H.O.M.P.S. Crime, especially house break-ins, is running rampant and home security is the largest industry by far. Despite this, like other movies of its ilk, C.H.O.M.P.S. features just the requisite number of bumbling crooks (two).
We rarely ever see C.H.O.M.P.S. moving in real-time; footage of him running down streets or through walls/windows is always either sped up or in slow motion and is accompanied with a score so jarring it seems the director commissioned two soundtracks, couldn't make up his mind, and so used both simultaneously.
The movie ends on a rather off-beat note with the titular robotic hero furiously tearing apart the kennel of a curmudgeonly neighbour dog. "Oh, shit" he shrugs as his abode is demolished while he lies inside of it. Cue credits.

I regret a few things about this film. The biggest one being that I never saw it in a movie theater when it came out. Seriously, 9-year-old Sam would've eaten this shit up with a spoon.
Okay, so here are a few more regrets to print on your dog tag:
• WELSEY EURE LEFT 'LAND OF THE LOST' FOR THIS Maybe it was for "Days Of Our Lives," really. But still, this heartthrob could've been big. "James At 15" big. And yet he squandered it.
• A NAIL IN THE COFFIN FOR LIVE-ACTION HANNA-BARBERA This was the 70's, when HB were ruling the airwaves. It should've been a slam dunk. Instead it was a granny shot that missed the hoop.
• CHUCK McCANN & RED BUTTONS' ENDLESS MUGGING As a kid, I thought McCann hung the moon & stars. But hindsight being 20/20, I hate him about as much as Richard Mulligan. Ditto Buttons.
• THE EXPLODING OUTHOUSE Nothing says a quality production like blowing up a crapper. And where is this film supposed to take place, in the Ozarks?
• A DOUBLE SHITTING OF SID & MARTY KROFFT'S PANTS This kind of wacky idea put them on the map. But HB beat em to it. I bet Brothers Krofft were Superfly TNT pissed when it came out.
But on top of it all, I regret that they probably went through at least three C.H.O.M.P.S.'s by the martini shot.
Awwwwww, c'mon. You were thinking it.
