Notes: Please forgive me if this is a little bit inaccurate, haven’t written for otherkin before. No specific kind of otherkin, just general stuff!
As always, Eurydice’s section is platonic. I’m including her because she’s popular!
➤ Marvin June
Growing up with The Split, Marvin knows what it’s like to experience yourself in ways that other people don’t understand.
If your kintype has instincts or behaviors, he finds them endearing instead of strange. She adjusts around you without making a big deal of it.
If you’re having dysphoria, Marvin isn’t always sure how to help, but he’ll stay with you until it passes. She does her best, having experienced gender dysphoria herself.
Marvin admires you for how you live as yourself so freely and unapologetically. Sometimes he wishes he had that kind of confidence in himself.
Marvin doesn’t care what you are, you’re still the person she loves, and that’s not going to change!
➤ Apollo June
Apollo is incredibly curious. The idea of otherkins never even crossed his mind before! Because Apollo asks you so many questions about what it’s like, he learns a lot about you and your experiences.
He and his siblings understand what it’s like to live as something nonhuman, so he’d never judge you for being otherkin, even if he doesn’t entirely get the concept. He’s learning through you!
He researches your kintype because he wants to understand it better. Apollo wants to show you he cares.
Apollo’s especially enthusiastic if your kintype is aquatic! He tells you all about his favorite aquatic animals, especially sharks.
He’s relieved to know that he’s with someone who wouldn’t see him any differently for his different appearance.
➤ Adonis June
Adonis is super excited about the whole concept. It immediately wants to know everything, though his questions are more rapid fire than Apollo’s.
It gladly takes the chance to proudly show off his cat arm prosthetics! They’re one of his favorite things, and he’s happy you like them too.
Adonis constantly boosts your confidence, he could praise you all day long if you’d let him! It helps you feel more assured. Just make sure you do the same for him, he needs it too!
Adonis is sure to match your enthusiasm when you receive any new gear. He’s big on making sure he doesn’t make you feel like your feelings are small.
More than anything, Adonis wants you to feel like you can exist without hiding.
➤ Artemis June
Artemis accepts it almost immediately. To him, it’s just another thing about you, but he’ll tease you affectionately, as he does with just about everyone.
If you’re birdkin and fluff your “phantom feathers,” he’ll grin. Birds of a feather flock together!
Artemis takes any serious mockery personally. Nothing ruffles his feathers (pun intended) more than seeing people mocked for harmless self expression.
If your instincts make you act differently, he doesn’t make it weird. He’s a bird, he has instincts that make him act differently too! It’s something for you to bond over.
If it’d help you to feel like you can fly, he’s glad to pick you up and take you soaring through the sky! It’s also a good way for him to show off, which he loves doing.
➤ Eurydice June
Eurydice understands completely! Having a friend who has an experience somewhat similar to hers makes her feel understood, too.
Working with animals has made her incredibly patient. She knows every living thing communicates differently. Because of that, she never expects everyone to express themselves in the same way.
Her knowledge of mythology occasionally overlaps with your experiences. Eurydice likes telling you about stories that remind her a little of what you tell her.
She invites you to a wildlife rehabilitation center after getting permission from the staff. Nothing makes her more happy than making others happy!
Notes: Trying a new format! Do you guys prefer this one, or the old one? I didn’t like having to come up with cute titles and photos of the characters every time. (¬_¬")
Dizzie’s section is STRICTLY platonic! In this case, the reader will be a friend of hers. I’m including her for the people who have her as a comfort character.
➤ Marvin June
When he finds out you’re a marine biologist, he thinks of AD. While it makes him a bit sad, it only makes him fall further in love with you.
As she slowly unpacks her trauma surrounding what happened with her childhood love, it gets a little easier for her to talk about. She tells you: “You would’ve gotten along with someone I knew…”
Marvin loves to see you happy, which is why he’ll be taking you out on a private boat to look at all the fish you wouldn’t normally be able to see!
She’ll come with you to the aquarium, however she’s not exactly the type of person to read the information signs. She’s far more interested in the sea creatures. You have to give her small fun facts as you go around the building.
You’ll never go hungry during long shifts with Marvin as your partner. He packs you a full lunch box the night before your shift, and he’ll even leave you a note inside!
➤ Apollo June
Though he appears to keep a straight face when you tell him what you do for work, Apollo’s squealing with joy on the inside. He loves sharks, you two are a perfect match!
He asks you plenty of questions, especially about sharks. Before you, Apollo thought he knew just about everything there was to know about sharks. Being with you has given him the chance to learn more about his special interest.
Apollo enjoys sitting in the aquarium and sketching the marine life he sees inside each tank. When he’s done, he likes to gift you some of his drawings!
He loves receiving updates on rehabilitation cases. If you tell him about an animal you’re helping, he’ll ask you how it’s doing a few times a week until it’s fully recovered.
After work, Apollo likes taking you out to grab a cup of coffee while you sit in a comfortable silence. Work can be exhausting, and he fully respects your need for space.
➤ Adonis June
Adonis isn’t as invested in your career as Apollo is, but don’t think he doesn’t care! Adonis quickly comes to love “ugly” sea creatures, such as anglerfish. He knows how it feels to be judged for your appearance, so he gains a particularly soft spot for them.
Adonis still asks questions, however they’re much sillier than the ones Apollo does. It’ll ask you things like: “Can octopi get lonely?” Or “If a whale liked me, could I keep it?”
Taking it to an aquarium can be a bit of a challenge, since the fish swim away the moment they spot it staring through the glass. Guess they’re just not a fan…
Adonis personally assigns each fish a personality in his head. Somehow, he always remembers which fish has what personality.
He enjoys having his head pet like a cat while you tell him all about your day at work. He always ends up asleep within just a few minutes.
➤ Artemis June
To be honest, Artemis thinks about eating the fish. He never acts on it, but there’s a small urge to do it.
Artemis likes to give you fish themed gag gifts for the holidays. You’ve received a hideous pair of sandals that make it look like you’ve stepped in actual fish. He’s surprised when you end up using them for outdoor work.
Being with you allowed him to find his favorite sea creature: the sea slug! He doesn’t quite know why he finds it so fascinating, he just knows that he does.
Sometimes, he’ll tell you “facts” that he knows are wrong just so he can hear you correct him. Artemis doesn’t typically like to be wrong, but hearing you get so passionate about your work makes it worth it to him.
Like Marvin, Artemis would pay for you to go on exclusive trips out onto the ocean. Although he can’t necessarily sightsee with you, being by your side is enough for him.
➤ Eurydice June
Eurydice meets you during a rehabilitation mission. She’s always happy to make new friends, especially ones who love animals just as much as she does!
Your “conversations” are usually just the two of you infodumping to one another back and forth until one of you has to go.
She’s consistently one of your biggest supporters. She always tells you that one day, you’ll do something extraordinary that’ll get you recognized in the field!
Eurydice gets really emotional over the animals she cares for. You’re a shoulder to cry on, which is really helpful when she’s taking a loss particularly hard.
Even when you meet up outside of work, Eurydice is always wearing some kind of fish themed accessory, like a hair clip. She only does this for you.
➤ AD
You’re truly a match made in heaven. Finding out he’s a conservationist made you feel like you were in one of those cheesy romcoms.
When you’re with AD, work isn’t so exhausting. You’re doing what you love with the person you love, what more could you ask for?
AD hopes to propose to you on a warm beach during the sunset once you guys aren’t so busy traveling for work all the time. He daydreams about the moment often.
You like to have playful competitions over who can recall the most facts related to a certain topic. While AD will typically let you win, he doesn’t play around when it comes to sea turtles. He beats you in that area, and it isn’t even close.
Your apartment is filled with all kinds of nautical decor. There isn’t a single room not filled to the brim with oceanic decorations. It’s the perfect place for you to call home.
Eurydice is feeling down, worrying she should’ve done more to protect her brothers from the loops effects. Artemis remembers how she used to cheer him up, and they find it works for her too!
Apollo slid open the glass door, warm air hitting his face as he stepped out onto the old wooden deck. For someone with so much money, Eurydice’s house wasn’t the luxurious place one would imagine.
She lived in a large log home, it was big enough, but not mansion level by any means. She always found comfort in the idea of a quiet life, living in a home with a wooden deck where she could knit in a cushioned chair and drink some freshly brewed tea. The thought made Apollo smile just ever so slightly, she was like a grandmother.
A gentle breeze moved through the grass, the tall trees surrounding the house swayed gently, their rich branches shifting back and forth. Leaves brushed against each other with a quiet rustling sound, a steady whisper that filled the night air. It was the kind of noise that made the world feel calm and slow, just as Eurydice wished for.
Apollo moved closer toward his siblings, leaning against the timber frame to the left of his sister. Artemis stood on the right.
For a moment, none of the them spoke. They simply looked up and into the vast, infinite night sky.
The wind moved through the trees again, leaves softly hissing and fluttering as the branches swayed above
They watched the stars. Stars were nice. That was another thing that reminded Apollo of his sister. Bright stars on a summer night.
He could hear the distant cooing of an owl. That was what made him think of Artemis. Apollo glanced over at his brother, who seemed to be pondering something he couldn’t quite understand.
It was Eurydice who finally broke the subtle tension. She looked up toward her brothers from her wheelchair and spoke.
“Are you… feeling alright? You’ve both been way quieter than you usually are.”
Artemis glanced over, meeting Apollo’s gaze for a moment before he turned back.
Neither of them said a word.
Eurydice continued.
“I invited you here so we could be together, just like before. You’ve just been giving me these sad looks all day, like I could break at any second.”
Eurydice tried to smile, but she couldn’t. She especially knew there was a terrible bit of truth to her last statement.
Apollo finally found the courage to look at his sister.
“It isn’t that. It isn’t you… I suppose I was just thinking about before. Back then. I know five years have passed, but sometimes it feels like a part of me is stuck, unable to move forward. I guess I still worry about you as much now as I did then.”
Eurydice couldn’t hold back her sigh as she tried to think of what she should say. It never wanted its brothers to be held back by what happened, or by it.
It’d hoped their treatments had been working. It hoped they’d been doing better since everything happened.
But sometimes those feelings just couldn’t be avoided.
Opening up took a lot of bravery from Artemis. It was part of what he’d been working on with his therapist. But seeing Apollo and Eurydice talk about their feelings made him feel like he could talk about his too. So he began, still too afraid to look back at either of his siblings.
“Same here. It’s like… I don’t want you to feel like I look down at you. Like I still see you as this fragile little being that can’t do anything on its own. That’s not how I look at you… but sometimes I worry. I can’t shake the guilt that part of it was my own doing. I should’ve done more to help you. I should’ve gotten my head out of my own ass sooner…”
The trees shifted again in the wind, which began to pick up. Leaves brushed together more quickly, filling the quiet space between them with a louder noise.
Artemis stared out into the abyss.
“I’m sorry.”
Apollo and Artemis knew she’d forgiven them long ago, a lot faster than most people would’ve if they were being honest. She worried they’d never forgive themselves, and what Artemis said had taken her by surprise. Do more for her? She still felt like she was the one who failed them!
“Wait… you think you should’ve done more to help me? No, no… I don’t want either of you to think like that. You had no idea what was happening, that it’d repeat all over again. You were doing the best you could. If anything, I should’ve been the one to stop it from hurting you. I was the one who knew it would happen. Maybe I could’ve done something to get you out of there less harmed. But… I didn’t.”
Eurydice’s voice grew quieter near the end, the words catching slightly in her throat. It felt like a spiral was starting to come on, but it didn’t want that to happen in front of its brothers. So she froze, gazing out at the yard once again.
The air felt heavy.
Neither Apollo nor Artemis knew how to respond, but they wanted to be there for her. If they couldn’t before, they could now.
Apollo placed a warm hand on her shoulder, gently rubbing it back and forth. The stars still hung bright above them, but they felt a little dimmer now.
Artemis was worried. He never meant to make his sister cry! Even if it wasn’t his fault, it still felt like it was. That was the hard part of trying to take responsibility for his actions. He kept wondering what part he might have played in anything bad that happened. He wondered what might cheer her up…
Then he remembered something.
Eurydice was always the one to cheer them up when things became too much. When they were little, she liked to tickle them to make them laugh. Artemis knew it worked for him at least. He always ended up forgetting what he had been sad about in the first place.
The memory made him smile.
The wind drifted through the trees again, leaves rustling softly as the branches swayed in the dark.
And now he knew what he needed to do to return the favor.
Artemis leaned down and gave her right side a gentle squeeze.
Eurydice let out a small squeak of surprise and unfroze, turning to look over at her smirking brother. Seeing her brother’s smile was always nice.
“What, still ticklish?” Artemis asked, clearly implying what he was about to do.
“A little…” Eurydice replied, even though she knew exactly what he was planning. It actually sounded like a nice change of pace. Part of her hoped he would. She missed being all playful and affectionate with them.
Apollo raised a brow. Back then, he probably would have called this a childish waste of time and rolled his eyes. Now, he understood what Artemis was trying to do.
So he lowered his hand and lightly wiggled his fingers under her chin, making her giggle.
Joyous laughter finally began breaking the heavy silence, Artemis taking the opportunity to run his own sneaky fingers along the low line where her chest connected to her tummy. That made her snort!
“Guyehehes!” She giggled out, snorting again. Her legs happily kicked against the footrests of her wheelchair, hands reaching up to cover her mouth.
“Don’t do that!” Artemis laughed. “You always said how much you liked seeing us smile!” Apollo hummed, expressing he agreed. Eurydice continued to try to talk through its giggles.
“Buhuhut it tihickles!” It said, struggling to stay coherent, especially when Artemis started squeezing her sides again.
“Really?” Artemis said, pretending to be shocked. “I had no idea! Let me help you with that…” He suddenly squeezing both its sides at once. It made poor Eurydice howl! She’d almost forgotten about Apollo, his mood now much brighter as he continued to work under her chin.
“What? It can’t be that bad!” Artemis snickered, trying to mess with her. “Is it worse here?” He wiggled his fingers against her right side. “Or here?” He repeated the action against her left.
“Thehey’re bohoth bahad!” Eurydice laughed, slowly uncovering her mouth to reveal her wide grin.
“Bahahad?” Artemis teased, repeating what she sounded like through her laughter. “Is my sister suddenly a sheep? I could’ve sworn she was a girl just a second ago! And she had the sweetest smile!”
“Iehe am!” Eurydice said, still wiggling around. Apollo looked to Artemis’s wings, and suddenly, they had another idea…Eurydice’s eyes widened.
“NOOOHOHO! Nohot that!” It shook its head, but it didn’t really mean it. She was having the time of her life, this rarely ever happened! It all felt like one super good dream.
It took him a moment, but Artemis finally maneuvered his left wing around and tucked it under Eurydice’s arm, fidgeting it around and letting the feathers brush up against her ball joints.
“EHEHEHEEK! AHAHARTEHEMIS!” Eurydice squealed, laughing the hardest she had in a long time. Artemis continued the action for just a little while longer before both he and Apollo pulled away, allowing her to catch her breath.
“Do you feel better now?” Apollo asked, still concerned about how she’d been feeling earlier.
Eurydice nodded. “Hehe… yeah. I do. Thank you guys. You’re the best brothers I could ever ask to have.” They both knew it meant it when it said that. “I love you.”
Artemis wrapped his wing around her again, hugging her close. Apollo leaned down and did the same, wrapping his arms around her as well. “I love you too.”
The three stood on the warm deck for another thirty minutes, letting the cool summer breeze brush through their hair before deciding to go back inside to get some drinks. In the end, everything had worked itself out, and Eurydice couldn’t be happier.
Notes: Please let me know in a reblog or a comment if you’d be interested in more story style headcanons broken up into parts like this!
Includes: Apollo, Artemis, Marvin, AD, and Rajesh. Adonis will be included in a future part when Apollo spends more time with the reader!
➤ Apollo June
You meet Apollo at a local library, where you find him reading books about mythical creatures, mainly vampires. You yourself are already fascinated by mythological creatures, so you’re excited to see someone who shares the same interest!
He’s a bit socially awkward, but you hit it off almost immediately. A “quick chat” takes an hour, then two, and before you know it, you’ve both stayed until the library is closing. You decide to offer him your number, wanting to take him out for coffee sometime. He seems surprised, but he quickly takes you up on your offer!
A week passes, but you finally get an opportunity where both of your schedules are freed up to meet. Apollo arrives before you do, but it doesn’t take long to spot him. He’s the only one in the whole cafe covered in fancy clothing from head to toe. He’s wearing a wide brimmed hat, a v neck blouse, a blue sash around his waist, and a pair of black dress pants.
It’s intriguing, you’ve never met anyone quite so eccentric. You want to sit near a window, but he says he prefers the corner seats. He orders a small cake and an unusually specific coffee. You never thought someone’s order could get so convoluted! Apollo tells you more about himself. He says mythology has fascinated him ever since he was a child. He says that at home, he has a personal library where he keeps an extensive collection of books dedication to folklore. He specializes in creatures of the sea, so you learn about Leviathans, Sirens, and even Krakens!
Overall, the meeting at the cafe goes fantastic. The more you learn about Apollo, the more you find yourself drawn to him. You’ll definitely be messaging him far more often, and he’ll be doing the same.
➤ Artemis June
You’ve always been someone who likes to party, so when you hear about an underground club, you just know you have to go. You put on your flashiest outfit, it’s so full of sequins that you can’t help but notice a few scattered across your floor!
The club sits below street level, tucked away behind an unmarked door in an abandoned hallway. Thankfully, you know you’re at the right place because you can hear the bass bleeding through the concrete.
The lighting is dim, a deep red glow with neon signs lighting the corners. The dance floor is crowded, people moving however they feel. Some dance slow, others move almost impossibly fast. What you don’t notice is that you’re catching someone’s attention. Artemis, the man next to you. Despite his poor vision, the sequins on your outfit flash in the light, and he’s intrigued. Who’s wearing this amazing outfit?
He strikes up a conversation first. He compliments your outfit, then asks how you were invited here. Artemis makes a bold move and asks you to join him for a dance. You’re excited, an awesome man with wings just asked you to dance, of course you tell him yes! He’s unbelievably skilled, he seems to have more talent than anyone else at the club!
Slowly but surely, the night winds down and clubgoers begin to head out. You’ve been drinking with Artemis at a nearby bar, still chatting about music, your lives, and why you enjoy clubbing. You grow tired and realize it’s time to go home. Before you leave, Artemis slips you a small piece of paper, one with his number on it. You feel your heart flutter, already knowing you’ll be calling that number by tomorrow afternoon.
➤ Marvin June
You love urban exploration, so you spend a lot of time scoping out abandoned areas near you. Around a month ago, you heard about an old music venue. Decades ago, there was a terrible accident during a band’s set, and the place has been abandoned ever since. There shouldn’t be any security at the location, so you’re more than excited to go, bringing your camera to take plenty of pictures!
You sneak past the old, grimy metal gate, but before you can make it inside, you notice a man smoking against one of the concrete walls covered in graffiti. He doesn’t look like security…perhaps he’s another urban explorer? If you’re brave enough to explore abandoned buildings, you’re brave enough to start a conversation, so you walk up and greet him.
He seems frightened at first, like he isn’t used to anyone else being there. You figure that’s normal. The man tells you his name is Marvin, and he’s curious to know how you found out about the venue. You tell him about your hobby, and he seems fascinated. It sounds like something he’d do for fun! Marvin asks you plenty of questions, giving you time to fully take his appearance in.
First, you notice his hair. It’s beautiful, the way it curls almost seems ethereal, and it’s clear he takes good care of it. Marvin’s cheeks and nose are covered in freckles, and you spot a few more along his forehead and jaw. You feel a little odd for staring, so you try to look into his eyes. At first they appear brown, but the longer you look, the more they seem to shift into a shade of red.
Marvin notices how your eyes linger, but he doesn’t exactly dislike the attention. It starts to get dark, and the two of you have been walking around the premises for hours. He’s nervous when he asks for your number, saying he had a great time and that he wants to try urban exploring sometime. He tells you he’ll let you know when he’s free, and you part ways. You find yourself looking forward to your next encounter with Marvin!
➤ AD
You meet AD at a local aquarium fundraiser. He looks…weird. Not in a bad way, it’s just strange to see a grown man dressed like a vampire when he isn’t even at a convention, and it’s the middle of summer! He’s wearing a high-collared shirt with ruffles, black and red rings, black dress pants, and even boots. You can’t say he lacks style, nothing about his outfit screams cheap costume.
You walk up to his booth and ask what’s with the outfit. Does he celebrate summerween or something? AD doesn’t seem offended at all. He laughs and asks if the outfit is working. He quickly shifts to the topic and starts telling you about sea turtles. His favorite species is the green sea turtle! You can feel his enthusiasm, it’s obvious how much he loves his job. His good energy rubs off on you, and you find yourself in a better mood than when you first arrived.
He sprinkles in a few vampire jokes while he rambles, chuckling about how convenient it is that the event is held at night since he can’t really come out during the day. When you try to pry, he says he’s joking. You’re not sure whether you should believe him or not.
After visiting the other booths, you end up wandering back to his. He’s happy to see you, people rarely come back to hear more from him. AD continues telling you about different species of sea turtles until the event ends. He mentions that he’ll be back tomorrow, since the fundraiser doesn’t fully wrap up for another week. On the way home, you can’t stop thinking about the funny vampire guy. You’ll be visiting him again tomorrow night.
➤ Rajesh Kumar
You’ve been feeling more stressed than usual, and you decide you need a new hobby. You settle on taking up art, more specifically painting. Maybe painting can help you let out some of that inner frustration you’ve been hauling around. You head to the craft store and spend a long time browsing through the different colors of paint and canvases.
When you’re finally ready to check out, you’re floored. The line is huge! It’s going to take forever to get out of here! You groan and join the line, ending up behind a nice man who offers to let you go in front of him. Your phone has been dead since you got to the art store, you forgot to charge it again. Typical. There isn’t much else to do while you wait, so you find yourself talking with the kind man behind you.
He introduces himself as Rajesh and explains that he’s an art teacher picking up supplies for his students. You tell him you’re trying to pick up a new hobby and want to start painting. You talk about what you’d each like to paint, how expensive some of the materials are, and how stupidly long the line is.
Eventually, you reach the front. After checking out, you wait by the door for Rajesh. You want to exchange numbers and keep talking. He offers to take you to an upcoming paint event he’s hosting. You feel excited to attend such a cool event!
