“Oh, would you mind terribly if shared this table for a few moments?” The cafe was unexpectedly packed for midday. She had thought she could wait for Tyler with a quick tea by herself at a quiet corner table. But, there must have been a lot of lunch meetings set for the day, or an influx of people getting ready for a job interview at the Ministry, because her normal place was filled to the brim. Marya had walked in and sighed, about to turn around defeated when she spotted a familiar face.
Not that she knew Ava Avery particularly well. Not all that much better than other young women who passed by her at the occasional party here and get-together there. But it didn’t take much for Marya to exude an undeserved amount of friendliness as she already started pulling out a chair across from Ava.
“I was supposed to be meeting my husband for a nice lunch out. He gets so wrapped up in his work sometimes, I need to remind him to take breaks and clear out his head. Of course, even when he says he will, his meeting still runs late and I’m told he needs just a little more time. And, I don’t know about you, but the Ministry can just feel so stuffy to me. Charm those windows all you want, I will still remember that we’re underground. So, I came here to wait it out. All of that is to say, may I join you for a cup of tea? My treat.”
