His teeth sunk in to his bottom lip as Harrison’s fingers brushed against his hand, even for a fleeting moment. He quickly recoiled his arm, inhaling a shaky breath as he listened and watched the older man. Slowly he was leaning in, as if trying to get closer. Suddenly he found his PADD being given back to him, and he quickly adjusted himself, taking the tool from Harrison. Hopefully he wasn’t caught nearly oogling the man. He cleared his throat and tucked the PADD under his arm and gave a small nod. Relief washed over him, hearing that he was going to be waived. It definitely cut back the stress and work on his own shoulders. A grateful smile etched his lips as he nodded again. “That’s much appreciated, Sir. Thank you.”He paused and fidgeted, uncertain if he should leave now or not. “I-If there’s anything else ya’d like fer me to take care of…”he trailed off again. Half of him wanted to leave, and the other half wanted to stay. Stay and do what? Annoy the teacher?“I uh… I have some time on my hands…”
Harrison nodded. He smiled at McCoy, eyebrow raised. "Of course, my boy." For a moment, his attention drifted down towards the dwindling list of work orders that was pinned to the space beside his left hand. A teaching job was small potatoes for an augment that could perform several thought processes at a time. He kneaded his forehead for a moment before looking back up at the assistant, who was perhaps pinker and more wide-eyed than before.
"There is little I need assistance with, surprisingly." The teacher stood up and powered down the display on his desktop. He rounded on his heel and retrieved his bag from a storage locker in the corner. "Your initiative and desire to help is most encouraging, McCoy. There will be excellent things in store for you."
Harrison lifted his bag over his shoulder, the boy's final question still hanging in the air. "Do you want to get coffee? The caffeine might ease your nerve." He came to stand beside the assistant, his arms folded across his chest. Upon closer inspection, Harrison began to think he might need something stronger.
