Heath knew Alex was saying those things to lighten the mood and not make everything more dramatic of what it already was, but jokes like that were probably too soon, even for him. The blond just rolled his eyes at his friend, giving him a playful nudge. “You’re hilarious, really.” He relaxed a little bit when he laid on the couch, looking as Alex spoke of what the doctor had told him. Of course he would want to return to work, but he could be equally stubborn as Alex and force him to stay in. The idea of things going south again in a mission and loosing Alex terrified him. He had never really thought how dangerous his friend’s work really was. “True, but you have to go to rehab and don’t push yourself further of what you can do, just because you wanna go back to work. You hear me?” He shot a defiant look at him, followed by a worried one at the hiss Alex made. At the other blond’s response about cooking, Heath feigned shock. “Well, fuck you,” he chuckled. At the mention of changing the bandages, he scrunched his nose. “I’ll try not to pass out, that’s what I can compromise —helps that is not actually my blood.”
If there was something Alexander appreciated from his friendship with Heath (and truly, there were many things he appreciated) was the power to be himself, uncensored. He knew even if his friend didn’t agree to things he said or did (case in point, his job); Heath still supported him and never judged him and that was more than he could ever expect from anyone. “Thank you, I think so too. Think I can think of comedy as my plan B?” he questioned and although his tone was teasing, the look on his face shifted briefly as he realized maybe thinking of a plan B wasn’t a ludicrous idea. However, his features softened at the worry on his friend’s face, the severeness on his voice as he announced his plans of keeping a close eye on Alex throughout his recover if he did wanted to go back to work, made him chuckle. “Yes, mom. I’ll go to physical rehab and take care of myself so I don’t get grounded. Can I still do paperwork? I also may need to follow leads, there are a couple cases I need to get hands-on quickly. Promise not to make it a physical challenge” he mused, scratching the back of his head. The world hadn’t stopped because he was injured, there were people who still needed him, people who relied on him and he couldn’t waste much time. Sensing the reaction from Heath when Alex mentioned the bandages, the agent shook his head gently, his thoughts already a blurry mess. “Tell you what, you hold the bandages and I’ll do the dirty job, nothing I haven’t seen before” the agent shrugged. Then, he took a chance to look at his best friend, a soft sigh escaping his lips immediately “Hey, uh... not to get super sentimental or anything, but thank you. For being there, for being my family. I really don’t know what would be of me without you. Sorry I made you go through this again. Just wanted to say I love you, man. I don’t say that enough.”
