A Thing of the Past || Tiff & Alica
A subtle gasp. Her heart skipped a beat. The woman appeared on the corner the dogs had just been playing, appeared so suddenly and silently you’d have thought he’d just popped out of the ground. That, as so many other things on this island, was an illusion. She had merely been lost in thoughts, hadn’t she? The brain was a treacherous thing sometimes. This was not about the dogs and the fights they fought, it was not about home and the pets they’ve kept – To be completely honest, Alica wasn’t even sure what she was really thinking about, only that it occupied her mind for a moment too long.
“I-I’m sorry..” It was a mumble and a lie. Her eyes had widened, her expression frozen for a moment that it was almost rude of her to pretend not to recognize the siren. If anything, that was one face she would never forget. It was different, though. She wasn’t afraid anymore or angry yet far from comfortable and she certainly wasn’t forgiven. But all that was too much to worry about now. “I shouldn’t have stared. I gotta-“ What was it again she had to do? Funny how it all boiled down to lies again. “No, what I meant is I want to go”
