Ugh. Gender expectations. They cut both ways. Obviously not nearly so badly for me as for, say, my sister, or my mum. I'm in a position of privilege, but I still want to gripe and grump when my grandfather makes eyes at my plate over lunch and grunts something about what I'm eating not being a 'proper lunch for a proper man'. Top ways to irritate me to the point that I will physically fight you: - Make disparaging comments about the ways in which I express my gender or sexuality. (I.e. conflate what you perceive as feminine characteristics with weakness, or a lesser form of behaviour than what you perceive as masculine.) - Make disparaging comments about what I choose to eat. - Make out that you know better than me on either subject, and that you have some kind of right to tell me how I should 'improve' myself.
