Q. What is the Proxy server?
Ans:- In Information Technology Proxy server may be an application or network server. Proxy server is act an intermediate medium to get connect other system for services and resources. Today world proxy server mostly provide web page services and WWW (World Wide Web) services. these proxies called Web Proxies.
Purpose of Web Proxy
Through proxy you can restrict anonymous user to connect WWW internet services.
It can cache the web pages to increase speed of net browsing. It help to reduce bandwidth usage by avoiding duplicate content downloading.
It help in audit of internet usage. you can get detailed audit report of employee internet usage.
check malware content before receive and sending data.
You can actually configure access restriction of Internet website and services via proxy server. such as
To apply access policy to restrict undesired sites and content.
To imply security and control on user web access.
You can apply internet content filtering on WWW.
To allow a web site to access external resources like images, music files etc. directly to the outside domains.
To prohibit the browser to directly accessing the outside domains it prevent data theft.
Types of Proxy.
Proxy server comes in between any point of source user PC and destination server or internet.
Forward Proxies
Most of the Proxies are type of forward proxies, it takes request from internal network and forwarding them to the external internet.
Open proxies
Open proxies are accessible to any internet user. Open proxy takes request from internet user and forward to anywhere on the internet. there are thousands of open proxies available on the internet.
Reverse proxies
Reverse proxy takes request from internet and forward to the internal web servers or services. it is very closed to the internet hence its put under close supervision. external internet user may not aware about internal server network.
Performance Enhancing Proxies
Performance Enhancing Proxies use for improve TCP performance and bandwidth. these are used in wireless links where enable feature of different speed of download and upload rates.
