“You’re Not Perfect”

I haven’t been drawing a lot and I just finished watching Courage The Cowardly Dog, so I drew the thing from the first segment of Courage’s nightmare. I dunno. Something about it in particular resonated with me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it so the only thing left to do was to draw it.

And because none of my drawing can be without an overly long description about what I was thinking about when making it:

The goal for this drawing was to just draw it no matter how much it did or did not resemble the original work without worrying too much. It was actually very relaxing to work on, especially the sketch. I panicked a little when colouring because it looked very messy, but I started feeling a lot better as I went along. I kept repeating that it didn’t have to be perfect and kind of started to attempt at blending and I think it was semi successful? Either way I like how this turned out.

Also my sister said that this looked a lot like some sort of alien princess because I made it “too pretty” lol.

Here it is at last. After 3 months of nothing remotely artistic, I have finished my first comic page formatted comic. Not gonna lie I got a little burnt out when drawing the last panel, but it’s done! I relate to Quirrel on the last quote. I love the sound too, especially when drawing or reading.

I started this comic because I picked up Hollow Knight way back in August 2021. I loved the game and meeting Quirrel quickly became one of the many highlights of my gameplay. The City of Tears is my favorite place because it’s super chill (excluding the bosses lol) and sitting with Quirrel on the bench after a particularly frustrating bout was a nice way to just chill for a bit.

I honestly think that I made the city itself too gloomy, using darker tones instead of lighter blue ones, but to be honest I’m still proud of myself. Drawing backgrounds is a big weakness of mine because I’ve avoided it for the longest time. Completing the third panel was a huge accomplishment for me. And while the last one isn’t like what I had in mind for the most part, I like it.

I tried something and while it isn’t perfect, it’s nice in my eyes. Now all that’s left is to practice more! Hopefully I can look back one day and be proud of how far I’ve come.

Also, future me, we need to figure out a better work-hobby balance. And incorporate more frogs into our life.

So I lied. The last page did not come out in the 2-3 weeks that I expected it to because it turns out that October was a very busy month, but I really should’ve worked on it whenever I could’ve. Anyway, here is Page 2.5. A quickly put together transitory page because I forgot to sketch in a transition from the last 3 panels of Part 2 into part 3 (Which is 60% done). Knight decides a break would be nice.

Harley Quinn’s! Because I like her aesthetic. It’s also a little marker for how much I’ve improved in the last few years. The last picture is a recreation/improvement of this little doodle:

I have no idea why i used to draw figures this skinny. This is a doodle from around 2018. So it might have been me trying to imitate Clamp’s style?
