“Y’know you’re our main healer, right?” Cadence asks, a hint of concern underlying her joking tone. She swishes the bloodied rag around in the water and brings it back to the cleric’s arm. It isn’t a bad cut (one of them would’ve used healing magic if it was), but seeing Lenny hurt at all always sparks an aching pressure in Cadence’s chest that she doesn’t know how to deal with. She sets the rag down and begins dressing the wound.
“And I know you’ve got that really sick-ass armor and I know you can protect yourself but….” She trails off into silence as she finishes up the bandaging. She stares at her handiwork a moment longer before bringing her eyes up to meet Lenny’s. “But I want to protect you. And I’m not gonna tell you not to charge head-on at goblins but maybe it isn’t the safest thing to do so I just wanna ask that… you….” She looks down. “That you be more careful.”
it stings -- there’s no question about it. how could it not? the goblin had found just a sliver of unprotected skin, but that was enough to slice open her arm. it was dead now, and she was grateful for that, but her arm was still aching, and she was curled up against the wall, their bard working to clean it up the best she could.
cadence’s concern is even worse, makes her chest ache, and lenny squirms, watching the bandage as a way to avoid eye contact -- they’re both studiously looking away, as the halfling gives her half hearted lecture. “ i -- i just don’t like standing back and watching you all get hurt, “ she finally replied, lifting cornflower blue eyes up to meet the bard’s gaze.
“ i have armor, and a mace, and i just thought maybe i should take point, instead of staying back and throwing fire that never seems to hit. i don’t want to be like james. “
