Y tal como se hace en Veracruz, nada mejor para contrarrestar este calorón que un jarrito de café caliente (esta vez uno de Ecuador que me mandó mi querida amiga Silvia) 🍵🌞

Another valentine-less, valentine’s day. But that doesn’t mean I am not loved.
This is to brighten up all you single ladies (or non-ladies) out there. That You are loved, and you should always remember that.

"Cafe Minerva in the West Village is another HQ besides my home office. I’ve spent hours working on stories here. The crowd, a curious mix of locals and occasional tourists, offers a unique New York experience." Cafe Minerva
Particulars: 302 West 4th St (between West 12th and Bank); (212) 242-4800; Hours: Monday - Sunday: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Rundown: Cafe Minerva is one of those neighborhood spots that everyone wishes was just around the corner from their place. By day, it's joyfully cramped and a bit boisterous...which, to me, is what a cafe should be. You'll find an eclectic mix of Europeans drinking espresso, young entrepreneurs discussing plans for their next billion dollar app, writers, and ladies who lunch soaking up the sunlight that streams in through the floor to ceiling windows. At night, the crowd thins, the lights dim, and the wine starts to flow, making it a perfect place for a relaxed dinner with antipasti, salads, and light sandwiches on the menu. There's also a selection of baked goods on offer as well. So stop in, crack open a $20 bottle of wine under the watchful gaze of Marlon Brando, and enjoy the chill vibe before heading back out into a still West Village night.
Worth Stopping By For: A mid-week wine date or a welcoming destination for conversation or reading during the weekend
Get: a coffee and pastry; the prosciutto and fontina panini; a bottle of wine for sharing
FYI: Cafe Minerva has one of the best wine deals in the city: a whopping 20 bottles (10 red, 10 white) available for $20 each; Minerva serves been and wine only
Things we like--PSBTY
New Entrepreneur Lesson of the Day: Find secret weapons.
Since starting theSkimm we have had some very exciting opportunities for photo shoots and to be on camera. Good news: yay/omg. Bad news: Try to cover looking exhausted and try not to spend money while doing so.
In the past, we've either gone to department stores hoping for a free-ish makeover, that's ended with one Skimm'r being told at 9AM "I just really see you as a glitter person." [No]. Otherwise, we've gone straight to makeup stores, that have a minimum purchase requirement and we end up having to spend money that we frankly don't really have.
Enter PSBTY-- literally the best thing to happen to Skimm HQ since the "Do Not Disturb" alarm on our phones.
What is it? A makeup concierge service whose job it is to help you go through what you already own and find the very few things that you might really need. They try, know, and can get you literally every high end product under the sun. It's kind of scary.
How does it work? You work with your own stylist over the phone, for free, and they go through who you are/what your needs are/what you own etc. They make personalized product recommendations based on your needs, lifestyle and preferences. You can always reach them by email, phone, text for advice if you're in a bind, have a case of the Mondays, or are stuck at a department store counter.
We were lucky enough to meet co-founder Mitra at our favorite coffee shop and she came over to Skimm HQ to give us the full PSBTY experience. She sat with us, going through all of our products (turns out Skimm B is a bit of a hoarder) and helping us purge. She taught us how to work with what we have, change looks, and gave us some great advice on the few products we needed to get.
The results? Our Refinery29 shoot!
Seriously, start using them.
