Thought I'd share some of my writings. I doubt I've shared this one specifically, if so sorry, I know I've done it from SW (Ryo's Story) and some random blurbs but I don't think anything really from Caladi and Dei's story. Anyways I really want to write strong believeable female characters. Caladi grows throughout the story to become stronger but is not totally helpless. I've had the beginnings of this story in my head since 7th grade and has one of my greatest obsessions and loves in it. It is very dear to me though very far from completion. Enjoy :V PS. The dragon hunters are mainly sexist pigs and hardly value females except for house labor and other... pleasure activities. But this is mainly the thought for the time period of girls not being highly valued, it's just these men are the real savages. Hence why non of them have a willing wife.
“Bring the girl!” Shouted one of the men, giving a commanding signal to the others.
“Stop it! Let me go!” Caladi screamed, attempting to resist the strong hands that grabbed her, hulling her to her feet though she futility dug her heels into the ground. One of the men roughly shook her, causing her head to spin.
“You keep your mouth shut, missy, and do what you’re told.” The culprit of the shake growled, holding her tighter, causing Caladi to wince as pain shot through her arm.
“Your plan is useless!” The girl cried out though did not fight against the hostile hold on her, knowing her strength would be futile at the moment; it was best to save it for an opportune moment instead of floundering about like a captured fish. “Keeping me as your prisoner is wasted effort!”
“I beg to differ, girly.” The man who had given the order to grab her spoke, a cocky, knowing smile crossing his dark face. He leaned close to her face, making her wish he would back away as the raw stench on his breath was staggering. She fought to control herself from making a face, instead sucking in air and holding her breath to prevent herself from gagging. “You see, he might have escaped, though you weren’t so lucky, but he’ll be returning quite soon.”
“No, he won’t!” Caladi protested through a quick breath of fresh air though defiance and certainly shone in her eyes alive and well.
The man suddenly lashed out, grabbing her face with his hand. His fingers pressed into her skin, bunching her cheeks and lips together, paining her as well as making her unable to speak. The man tightened his grip, pressing her skin against her teeth, causing her to feel both her teeth and the man's fingers against her cheeks. Caladi’s eyes widened in shock and fear as he dipped lower, meeting her eye level.
“Now, now, please don’t start with that tone. You look like an intelligent girl, one with more than hair to fill her head. A rare find considering your gender and breed.” He spoke in a low, purring though dangerous tone. “I think you know more than you let on.”
Caladi tried to break away but the grip on her face remained firm.
“I think we all know here that your friend will be back. You see, dragons to tend to be very possessive of what they hold dear. Mostly that tends to be jewels, though there are exceptions. And you girl, appear to be that exception; A jewel among females.”
“I-I am not-.” Caladi started but faltered, “We’re just friends.”
The man let out a roar of laugher while a couple of others cracked crooked smiles which their teeth equally matched. “You give the beasts too much credit! All they want is things to please themselves, to ease their well being; they are simple minded monsters.” The dark man’s expression suddenly turned dark, “Don’t you dare sully the human race’s pride by putting us on the same level as those savages! Friends? With mere beasts of magic and tricky? You're not well in the head girl.”
“They are not savages! They have feelings too! They are noble, kind beasts if you get to know them; they have personalities like any of us. And as far as I can tell, they are more civilized than you!”
In a flash, the man’s grip on her face disappeared only for a stinging sensation to take its place across her cheek. Caladi let out a gasp of pain, stumbling back though the one man holding her kept her from falling. She knew instantly she was sure to have a bruise to mark where the man had struck her though she fought back the pricks of tears that sprang forth in response to the sudden pain.
“Oi now, you’d best not ruin that dragon’s jewel! You don’t know how he’ll react when he sees her in such a state. Young ones can be so wrathful, you know?” A voice called out, a light chuckle following the statement.
“Yeah, but you know dragons. They love the bright shiny ones but they're too stupid to notice a few nicks and scratches on the surface.”
Pigs. Caladi hissed in her mind though she wanted so desperately to say it out loud. However she was long accustomed to holding her tongue about remarks to others due to her position as a servant but that did not stop her from cursing and despising in her head. Already her one remark had rewarded her with harm though Caladi knew not to be silence by fear yet was smart enough to know how to avoid unnecessary pain. Keeping silent meant she chanced not another slap to her face nor other form of assault sparked by an insult. Besides, these men were brutal and uncivilized so any fight against them would be amusement for them and given them further excuse to be unkind.
“Relax boys, we'll have our fun with her later. Once she sees how the beasts really are, she'll come to our side... if not still then, she'll be too broken spirited to put up much a fight once her little 'friends' are good and dead.”
