For the birthday drawings, may I pretty please have Caliam with his war horse that he wasn’t supposed to buy?

“So. I can explain…”
My half of an art trade with @lady-merian, featuring her ocs Caliam and Raya! They're a great brother-sister duo, they both work so hard to support each other, and I love them very much. They deserve all the good things.
Bonus sketch studies. :)
For Caliam: How would you describe Arric and Erran? What traits of theirs do you value most highly? Do you think either is hiding something and, if so, what do you think it is?
Arric is clever and he’s good with his words (He always seems to know what to say. I’ve tried to figure out how he does it, but I can’t.) and responsible but not in a way that interferes with a good sense of humor, just the kind that makes people think he’s the older one of the two of us.
Erran is trickier. I’ll answer the last question first because it seems like he’s hiding a whole side of himself from us at times. It’s not that he’s reserved, it’s that even Arric will talk about things from before he moved to Wettham—and he’s got more reason than most to not want to talk about that— and for Erran it’s like that time doesn’t exist. It took me a little while to pick up on that though because he *doesn’t* seem reserved at all, but rather open. I thought it odd once I did notice it.
Erran is friendly, he’s a good sparring partner and not a sore loser which I appreciate. He’s generous with his time and his resources; really, I think he’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed one, though I know he’s putting money aside for something. Not that he’s mentioned it outright so officially I don’t even know that, let alone what specifically he’s saving for. There’s something compelling about him that I can’t put into words.
For Wynn: what's your favourite meal? For Erandir: what's a special memory from your childhood? For Merian: what's a good cure for stomach ailments? For Arric: what's your favourite view? For Raya: what's your favourite thing to bake? For Caliam: do you feel you're in the wrong tale?
Wynn: what's your favourite meal?
Ahh, for all the famous regional dishes of Northern Dorenan, naught beats a savory pie for me. Ye’ve made me hungry just thinking about it.
Erandir: what's a special memory from your childhood?
I have vague memories of coming along with my mother when she was visiting someone recovering from an injury. She was bringing a basket of food and medicines. …Sorry, Merian, I don’t remember more details about the injury or medicines. Just that she sang to me on the way to amuse me.
Merian: what's a good cure for stomach ailments?
*is distracted with Erandir’s story* Hmm? Oh, sorry. It is hard to say. It depends on the ailment and also the person. My old standby of ginger makes some people feel worse somehow, though it works well for me. Peppermint… cinnamon… lemon balm… bee balm… bitter greens to stimulate digestion… *steeples fingers and takes deep breath* I do not care if Caliam thinks this is cheating, I have found an article that says it better than I can, and in the name of giving useful information I will share it! But the short answer is that it depends on the ailment and the cause. *hugs*
If you're building your own herbal apothecary cabinet, be sure to cultivate several of these spectacular herbs for upset stomachs!
Arric: what's your favourite view?
Nothing against mountains or forests, but I like wide open spaces. Meadows, or fields of grain stretching out till they meet the sky. I don’t know that I have a clear favorite yet though.
Raya: what's your favourite thing to bake?
I have one oatmeal scone recipe I use a lot. It’s delicious and nearly foolproof—or else I’ve made it so often that I can tell what it needs more or less of—so it’s nice to try different things with. Blaeberries or heather honey with cream are my favorite additions.
Caliam: do you feel you're in the wrong tale?
>_>
Not really, I guess, though I want to be doing something. Isn’t it a bad thing to have a passive protagonist?
[Meri’s note: he may have a slight point here as I’ve let Wynn and Raya talk him out of doing something too foolish. I need to let him make a decision. They were perfectly in character as they persuaded him not to but it took a lot of work because he was perfectly in character to want to.]
Inktober day 3: boots. this one I did do pencil guidelines first. I erased them after I had the rough shape inked in though.
I’ve had this one picture saved for a long time because it made me think Caliam would do this no matter how ornate the desk.
So I know next to nothing about your WIP but
Is Caliam pronounced CAL-ee-am or cal-EYE-am?
hi! :D It’s the former. I stole the name from a character from The Door Within by Wayne Thomas Batson but changed the spelling from Kaliam to Caliam. (Typing it that way now looks weird to me, but it’s important to me that you all know that)

Just realized that the modern AU version of Caliam acquiring Flint would probably be him purchasing a motorcycle.
I commissioned @scarvenartist for art of Caliam at the forge, and I’ve been grinning every time I saw it ever since she finished. Even with so much going on the week I got it, (wifi was in and out at home, mostly out, and work seemed especially tiring) I can’t believe I haven’t posted this till now because I love it so much.
