California Zephyr in Byers Canyon
I was photographing along the Great Divide up in Wyoming with my sights set on Colorado—eventually. I then realized if I hustled a bit, I might catch the California Zephyr in Byers Canyon. (This is located on Highway 40 just west of Hot Sulphur Springs.)
I'd shot the train in that dramatic spot once or twice before, but this is like a surfer always searching for the perfect wave, so hustled I did. When I got to the canyon I reached for my phone to check on the location of the train—no service! I decided to hunker down and wait.
Lucky for me, I was rewarded fairly quickly with the train silently rounding the corner, with no warning. Given the harsh light, this is not the perfect capture, but I'll take it as being worth the hustle.
