It’s still a week before the rest of her things are shipped to Honolulu from the Mainland, mostly because they frowned on having the piano being put in the plane’s cargo hold. Okay, so that wasn’t exactly true, she’s left that back in New York, but the rest of her things ~sixteen years of collected things~ wouldn’t have made the trip in two duffel bags currently sitting in lock up at her hotel room. She wasn’t sure she was going to move back into the family hale, not just yet. But just being home, back to the land and sea of her birth has had such an effect on her. She’s happier than she can remember being in a long time, and some of the ache of her brother’s...of the funeral... of everything in the last year has a bit of it’s edge taken off. And what’s the first thing she does? Goes exploring, all of the places that were once so familiar but now are half-remembered dreams. The first order of business was trying to reconnect to John McGarrett, to see if he wouldn’t mind coming by the old hale and checking to make sure no one had moved in or broken in since the family had moved away. But also because she missed him, he’d always been like an Uncle to her, and that made him Ohana in her book. When she’d called the precinct though, they’d told her to come here. Which was very odd, but maybe they didn’t want to discuss a promotion with a stranger, and she could understand that. The Ali'iolani Hale was empty for the most part and something about it set Beth’s nerves off in the weirdest of ways, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. It wasn’t bad memories or old ghosts or even the fear of the dark, despite the lengthening evening shadows. Maybe it was the way her voice was swallowed up by the silence, which in turn sent shivers down her spine. The deeper into the building she went, the more the feeling dogged her steps. She raised her voice a little louder and reached into her pocket to take a hold of her phone, a reasonable and mature thing, so she hopes. “Hello?” Nothing. “Detective McGarrett?”
