What is the funniest/happiest moment you remember from working at Callson Manor?
Oh my sweet heavens, I have so many of those! Each year holds special memories in my heart, and I’m going on six years. I’ve met so many spectacular people there, and even made some best friends along the way.
The funniest memory from Callson has got to be the Paddle. If we’re ever up shit creek, we can always count on that paddle. It’s amazing!
But 2013/this year holds my happiest memory/moment. I got the opportunity to really devote myself to Callson Manor. I was out at construction everyday for two months, was there every night during business hours, acting, collecting glasses for the haunt I painted, being security, and then I helped take everything down which took another month and a half. The entire experience was incredible! I learned so much and now I’m really close with the owners. We’re all family, really. I’m just so thankful I had the wonderful opportunity to be out there so much.
But what really topped 2013/this year off, was the Callson Manor Get Bit banquet. It’s a night I wish I could re-live a million times. For the raffle, I had a total of 135 points, which won me a lovely new laptop (take that, college!) and that made me super proud of myself for working so hard. My major motivation for this year was that I really wanted to win True Haunter’s Award, and holy crap I was even nominated for it! Although I didn’t win the award, I’m super proud of Danny for winning it because he completely deserved it. He was put through so much shit this year. But I still can’t believe I was actually nominated! Like it still makes my heart beat fast and my hands all shaky. I went from never getting anything at the banquets ever, to actually winning smaller awards and being nominated by the owners who noticed all the hard work I put into the haunts. Gah! It just blows my mind!
Before Bryan announced the nominees, he told everyone that the people he was about to nominate are a huge part of Callson and they are all people to thank for their hard work. There was only about five of us standing and we all clapped for each other, along with the rest of the cast. That was a win in itself. And Joy, bless her heart, she presented me my Callson jacket. It was tough holding back tears because I’ve been wanting one for so long and now I’ve finally earned one. Gosh my hands are actually shaking. I’m just so passionate about Callson and I’m happy I finally get to really be a part of that. The owners are now talking with me about coming up with ideas and new themes, things to paint, when to come out for construction throughout the year and just so many things for this season. I finally feel like an important person to Callson.
I’m sorry for the ridiculously long answer, I just get so happy when talking about Callson. It means so darn much to me. Thank you so much for the question!
Last night was so fucking fun. I've never heard myself scream so loud. I walked out of one haunted house nearly crying and felt myself light headed at the end of the night because I was hyperventilating half the time. Also I apparently shoved Jackie behind me and bolted towards the exit of one. Ditching people to survive will apparently be my survival strategy in the apocalypse.
Yet another tiring night at Callson, right after school today as well. It's hard but fun. My sister and her husband came through. Now she and her roommate want to work next year. Problem with that is that everybody at the haunt knows me as Leith, my sister doesn't. Everybody at the haunt(pretty much) knows I'm gay, my sister doesn't. I'm living two lives, and now they are going to crash into each other. I guess I have a little less than a year to come up with a solution
Took a punch at the haunted house tonight from some drunk dude, and also got a free Callson Manor: Team Darkness t-shirt! In my two years volunteering there only 1 night (ironically my first) I was not in Darkness. I love working in it and scaring the shit out of people!
Yet another night of my throat dying as a strobe light slowly kills my vision. It's fun scaring people tho.... DARKNESS=BEST HAUNT CUZ OF ME(and the demon lord).
Day one of callson build done!
Ugh I don't want it to be tomorrow . I have to get up at ten to help start building Callson Manor Haunted House. I don't want to do work, or school or responsibilities or things or stuff.
