Points North!
This was a very interactive way to see how film makers want to pitch their documentaries. I was lucky enough to stay for two of them. The first one was called "Ocean doesn't Care" The directors for this film were really into trying to persuade the panel of what they really want to show. The focus was tourists is Mexico and how the Mexicans felt or interacted with Americans. Another strong point was about a 15 year old Mexican boy who sold himself to American men for technology such as iPhones and computers. Two very strong points but I am not quite sure how both were relevant. This film may need a little more direction. The second film was "What tomorrow Brings". This was a very good topic about the woman in Afghanistan who attend school and the struggles with the ability to get and complete an education. The Taliban is getting stronger and the woman's rights are slowly degrading. It's a building foundation to show anyone how difficult it is to be in another country and how important education is for the woman of Afghanistan. The directors knew exactly what they wanted to show and why they thought it was very important. They have a good future in film making!
