Our boys lacrosse varsity coach at Brunswick High, Don Glover is an excellent coach on and off the field. A coach in my eyes has two roles. The first being the ability to motivate a team to reach their full potential as athletes, citizens, members of a community. By pushing a group of individuals and expecting nothing but full effort, it causes the group to get better as a unit. Coach Glover (who happens to be my dad), always demands the most out of his players. He is constantly inspiring everyone to strive to achieve their full potential in practice as well as in the classroom. In school he requires every student athlete to not be late to school, keep up a good academic standing, and be active and a good presence in the school and community. Our team volunteers with the younger age lacrosse teams, as well as is actively getting involved in the community with various services. The second role of coaching is his relationships with his players off the field. If anyone needs to talk about anything he’s always the first to sit down and help them out. Meetings with coach after school or after practice to “touch base” are not uncommon. He is frequently a helping hand to anyone on the team for anything they need. Whether it’s needing a place to stay on prom night or someone to help them decide on which colleges to chose, coach is always there for you. This “extra” part to coaching is not common, he isn’t just coaching to win games, he’s there to help and be there for his players with or without lacrosse.
