Retronaut Selects: Weathers - Kids In The Night (2018)

I first found out about Weathers after I heard “I Don’t Wanna Know” sometime last year.

I put that song on my playlist, “The Zone, Vol. 1: More Than A Retronaut” , and when I was going through it the other day, I found it when I was moving songs around.

I’m not sure how I forgot about it, but it’s likely to be because I still had the free version of Spotify, which I was never crazy about because of the commercials. I never stayed into stuff with commercials in between.

Luckily, my brother got me Spotify Premium earlier this year, and I’ve been diving into Spotify every week while I complete my college coursework. 

So, I was properly introduced to Weathers after I saw a friend of mine listening to “Poser” on Spotify.

I checked it out on a whim and I loved it. I had it on repeat for days.

Then, I listened to the album. I don’t think it truly sunk in the first time I heard it. I couldn’t process it, but I knew that I needed it in my life.

The album is amazing because it addresses mental health.

The opening song, “I’m Not Ok” is a song we need to hear.

We have this belief that we need to be fine all the time, even when we aren’t.

We risk being judged for having feelings.

We put on this front to make everyone believe we’re fine, when it does more harm than good. 

It’s an amazing song because it both addresses and eliminates the stigma associated with not being okay.

We all have times when we’re okay and when we aren’t. 

It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s okay to be okay.

We need to be there for one another. We need to talk things out instead of bottling them up. 

You feel the way you feel for a reason. Your feelings are valid.

I overanalyze, I know, but I’m really happy to present my thoughts on all this.

Now, Problems is another song we need to hear.

We are always defined by what we have instead of who we are and what we do.  

All our little flaws are always pointed out, but all our rights are never looked at.

This is because it’s so easy to be negative instead of positive. People always need a reason to nitpick when it’s a reflection of their insecurities, not yours.

Soon enough, we realize that we all have problems. 

In a world where we can have anything, we have problems. 

Problems are problems. There is no singular version of problems.

Money can be a problem. Fame can be a problem. 

Money and fame are great things, but there is good and bad in everything.

You need one to see the other.

Now, I’ll be honest, “Kids In The Night” has me in hysterics always. 

The fact that “Poser”, “1983″ and “Shallow Water” all come one after another makes me happy on a level I can’t even process sometimes. There’s this certain momentum in how they lead into one another and I love it.

Kids In The Night is a masterpiece.

So many things are said on this album that make such a difference by being said.

Things that show us we aren’t alone.

Things that show us that we’re all just finding our way.

Things that need to be said.

So, I’d like to personal thank Weathers for really making me think about myself and life, completely taking over my life, and for being the realest band out there.

Bonus Story: On Friday, I was working on the Weathers graphic for my Instagram post about my blog, I was listening to a playlist I made on Spotify called, “On Repeat” and I put it on shuffle and as soon as I started working on my Weathers edit, “Poser” came on by complete coincidence!!

While I was working on my edits, I picked another playlist of mine, titled “Headbangin’ + Groovin’” and I left it on shuffle and “Dirty Money” came on first, again by coincidence.
