You should listen to this song as you read.
It wasn’t unreasonable for those words to come out of his mouth. She hadn’t really wanted to hear them but it seemed they were in his thoughts then, and she wouldn’t go against Cameron expressing himself. The four words were merely a confirmation that she was being particularly cold, and she was hurting him.
She immediately looks away from him, starting to fiddle with her sleeves as she considers what to say. Did she love him? Yes. More than she probably should…so much so that those words hurt her deeper than anything she’d ever felt before. It echoed in her mind and she can almost feel tears coming to her eyes. Almost.
She slowly looks back over at him, licking her lips nervously before speaking in a quiet, gentle voice. She had to speak with care or she’d risk coming off wrong and/or hurting Cameron further.
"I know it seems like that a lot of the time…but…C-Cameron, I do…I do love you. I love you more than anyone I’ve ever known and that means a lot. I love you and I trust you, with everything and anything I have. I don’t throw around the word love like it’s nothing, Cam, you should know that and thus, you should know how much that means. So…”
She turns, gently grabbing his hand and wrapping her hands around it to gently cradle his between hers. She gently caresses his hand, eyes soft and tranquil, like the waters of an undisturbed pond. Her touch is light — she’s afraid if she touches him with the slightest bit of pressure, he’ll break into pieces.
"I’m sorry if it ever seemed like I didn’t…"
