Sending your child to overnight camp? Here are ways you can prepare him/her!
Overnight camps are fun and are full of activities; they serve as a great learning experience for your child. Here are some doubts that make it difficult to send the child to overnight camps:
· Parents are not sure if they are ready to leave the child alone
· They don’t know their child’s reaction
· They are unable to develop trust on the management
· They think no one can handle their child
· Their child is not independent
Your child can handle overnight camp successfully only when you follow some strategies to prepare him:
Tip No. 1: Prepare your child mentally
If parents prepare their child before hand, there is a greater chance for the child to survive in the unknown environment. Discuss the details of the camp with your child. Try to send your child to a camp where their friends are going.
Tip No. 2: Teach your child do to his tasks alone
Teach your child to do their chores themselves such as:
· Handling clothes, packing and unpacking of clothes, sending dirty clothes to laundry etc
· Wearing clothes, tying shoe laces
· Teach the child how to keep toothpaste tidy and carry toiletries in a bucket to the bathroom
· Discuss ways you will communicate with your child, mention the times of the day when you will call
Camp Membership
The USA Camping Association (USACA) is leading the way for businesses who strive to encourage children to get engrossed in seasonal camps, after-school programs, holiday retreats and more. Our mission is not to tell you how to run your program, but to help facilitate what you need to be successful through communication and outreach. The USACA is here to help you attract more campers, find new and exciting programs and equipment, communicate with others involved in camping and to be a continuously evolving association based on the needs of our members.
Have an idea of something that could help your program? Throw them out there! We will do all we can within the USACA and if we can’t, we’ll work on adding new features as needs and request arise.
