Switzerland has four official languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. Romansh is a Romance language that is spoken by less than 1% of the population. You can find Romansh speakers in the Canton of Grisons in Southeastern Switzerland, where there are five written variants of the language. In 1982, an inter-regional variant of Romansh called Rumantsch Grischun was introduced by Lia Rumantscha, an organization involved in preserving the Romansch language and culture. Rumantsch Grischun is based on three variants of Romansh.
