#StuckatHome No.11: The thing about the southern Victorian coast is the danger that lurks at every turn. The tides come and go with every moon. That is the natural flow and comes every single day. It’s an apt allegory to the nature of life’s turbulence. It come and goes, without fail, with the rising tide. I’m not an expert in psychology but I sometimes have a feeling that we absorb too much postcard psychology that often reduces the conversation around mental health to a soundbite. Things like like “You take time for you”. What the heck does that even mean? I don’t know about anyone, but on my one, with time for myself, I’m often wallowing in my own sorrow or feeling crap about other things that I feel inadequate about. Which makes me wonder if what we really need is a lighthouse. A stark recognition that well-being isn’t the absence of adversity or raging storms. It’s realizing that those will come with the tide, and accepting it will help us build the resilience to weather through it. Just like a building a lighthouse. It’s accepting that storms will come.
