001. caperdonach, macduff, balblair
Dear Interested Online Parties,
Today Gia (soldierspy) and I (erictho) decided to work our way through as many of the single malts at my local as possible, and to start blogging our findings. Our first effort was 3, which I feel is a goodly start!
Caperdonach, 15yrs, 46abv
The first of the evening, and drunk on the rocks, this was a delicate scotch and rather smoky. Certainly not bad, but not really to either of our tastes, we've set this as a midway benchmark and given it: 2.5 STARS
Macduff, 18yrs, 43abv
This whisky (also on the rocks) went down very well indeed! It was surprisingly spicy, and had very good body. Can you say that whisky has body? Oh well, I just did. If there weren't 130+ bottles to try, according to the pub website, it would be good to return to this: 3.5 STARS
Balblair, 10yrs, 43abv
The baby of the trio, and the cheapest to boot, this was very drinkable -- subtle sweetness beneath spice. A bottle between the two of us would not last long at all. A solid: 3 STARS
NB: There is no logical order to the way we are choosing these -- it's generally a combination of whim, age, and interesting name. Though we probably won't be going for the £14 one any time soon...
