Mercedes Capsir sings Emilio Arrieta’s Marina (1929)
Interestingly, a modified version of the infamous flute cadenza from Lucia puts in an unexpected appearance near the end of this bravura aria. Neither Arrieta nor Donizetti can be held responsible, as Marina premiered in 1855, several decades before Mathilde Marchesi devised the cadenza for her star pupil Nellie Melba. Imho, it sounds much more at home in this context, and Capsir sings it brilliantly.
