Cat & Mouse Door, Unter Den Linden 17, Berlin.
2013/4. Barrie Leach.
One of my favourite doorways in the world is in the old Wilhelmine style Carlton Hotel (1902) building by Carl Gause. Cats & mice carved in to the surround and cast in to the odd centred handle on the decorative door, I’m guessing it led to the Kons Restaurant (later Astoria) but I could be wrong.
This building’s done pretty well to survive the last century in a city like Berlin, if the stone cat above the door ever starts telling stories I’ll be on the first plane.
There’s not much info about the doorway that I can find so if anybody knows more please add on to this post.
