The first ever International Hermit Crab Convention was held in Lockport NY last weekend. I planned on being an attendee, but then I was invited to be an artist vendor, so I was there all day and it was a pretty great event. Made a bunch of new friends from all over the country, learned a lot about how to better care for my own crab colony, and I made quite a few sales too. Oh, and I got to see a Strawberry crab in person. And since yesterday was Halloween, I had chunks of jack-o'-lantern scraps to give to the hermit crabs. Believe it or not, I've received some complaints about how I haven't posted any pics of my hermit crab colony in a while. So update: After a couple of eventful molting seasons I still have 8 happy and seemingly healthy Carribbean hermit crabs, although for the past month I thought that maybe I only had 7 because Zelda here had gone missing. How do I lose a hermit crab for a month? - It's a big tank and she's only the size of a quarter, the crabs hide food under the sand so even if they aren't molting they can stay underground for a bit (although it's odd that I didn't see any signs of her at night), she and Hugo are almost the same size and they switch shells sometimes so it's possible I'd been confusing the two of them for a week.
