Walk Our New Entry Path

This week, our visitors may have noticed a brand new path from the parking lot into the Portland Japanese Garden.

The new path is North of the previous one and, as you may have seen, it meanders through what will be our Entry Plaza.

While you are walking the new path, take a look at crews working hard to build our Cascading Ponds, which will soon greet you as you approach the Garden gate.

Signs across from the tennis courts and our friendly staff members will help guide you to our entrance. Follow our Cultural Crossing expansion project as it continues to take shape, here.

Terraced Entrance Taking Shape

Come April, as visitors enter the Garden, they will soon be able to meander along a zig-zag path rising through a series of terraces. Read more here about the transition from the hustle and bustle of Portland to the tranquility of the Garden.

For 52 years, the Garden’s front entrance in Washington Park has remained relatively invisible–a challenge for visitors to find their way to the Garden at the top of the hill. A new water garden of cascading ponds will welcome visitors with a strong first impression, and serve as prelude to the Garden they will experience at the top of the hill. The journey to the Garden will begin at the water’s edge. These pictures show the start of what will be the cascading ponds at the terraced entrance.
