This week’s artifact from the @YogiBerraMuseum is an authentic “WelcomeYogi” pin from 1964. It was a @YankeeStadium giveaway for #OpeningDay marking the beginning of #Yogi’s first managerial tenure — one in which he brought the @Yankees to the seventh game of the #WorldSeries, but ultimately lost to the @Cardinals. He was relieved of his duties soon thereafter and that November, signed on to the @Mets coaching staff under manager #CaseyStengel. Curious fact about the pin… Though it’s dated April 14, 1964, #OpeningDay didn’t happen until two days later because of two consecutive rainouts. Another curious fact, I wear my very own version every time I’m at the museum! Incredible evening meeting @Mets great and team Hall of Famer, #EdKranepool, at the #StatenIsland @FerryHawks game! A favorite of mine since childhood, getting to listen to Kranepool tell tales covering #CaseyStengel and the original 1962 #Mets as well as the 1969 champions and 1973 NL champs was simply #Amazin’! I just recently read #CaseyStengelBaseballsGreatestCharacter by #MartyAppel so the #OldProfessor was on my mind as I went through the #BaseballHallofFame this time. There’s a LOT more #CaseyStengel memorabilia on display, but here’s just a little bit of it. And if you don’t know much about Stengel, but love #baseball, I suggest you learn about him.
