Waxing for the casting moulds

Finally,  the gelflex moulds for making my Russian dolls were completed.

The first result of pouring the wax into the mould. The shape was not formed sharpen and clearly.

I started using a knife and burner to trim the wax look clearer and smoother.

Those three different sizes of waxes will be the main dolls of my self directed project.

*Tip from Geoff and Choi,

To clean up the dirty surface of the wax, use White Spirit (or thinner) with cotton or stockings.

The smell of white spirit was nasty (mask required!), but the effect was good.

There is no guarantee that I will succeed to cast at once, so I was waxing again and again.

Ready to be used for lost waxing casting! However, I know I should definitely make more. It would be not enough..

[Coldworking process]

Outcomes of mould blown glass from last week

With the help of Ingrid, I was able to get a right surface blowing glass.

So, after cutting, the coldworking was processed through each step; 80,180, 220, 400, 600 units.

I thought my arms to be numb because I had ground a lot of glass at the once. But I would say that I enjoyed the coldworking process, although my body was tired.

The same day, I also did coldwork the digital casting glass for Geoff, those were had already broken when I took it out of the plaster moulds. In addition, one of the them had plaster residue inside of the glass with a small glass lump on its surface. So, I removed the lump with the diamond wheel and attached the broken part with the UV glue (Unfortunately, the plaster residue could not be removed).

Another broken object was also also combined using UV glue and lamp.

Finally, I finished all coldworking process for my submission.

I feel a sense of accomplishment of it. I wish l will meet with good results.

Week 3- PLA Casting Outcome

I took out the casting glass from the mould made last time.

Before starting to take out the casting glass, I checked the bottom of the mould. The melted glass overflowed, and it did not seem to enter into the hole correctly.

Due to the defect of the bottom of the glass, I was afraid it would be damaged; however, I just tried smashing the PLA casting mould to take out my casting glass.

The plaster mould was too firm; hence I was quite struggling while I separated the mould and casting glass.

Finally, I took out the cat from the mould. The upper part of the glass was manufactured quite well, however, the lower part of the cat seemed to have been failed to take a form. Maybe, the temperature of the kiln was a little high for my casting glass. Moreover, there was a glass lump between legs and body and the reason of that could be that the inside of the mould was not clean.

Would I obtain a satisfying result if I put the casting glass in a low-temperature kiln?

Could I get a satisfactory result if I cleaned the dust inside of the mould more clearly?

I should try more experiments to find an accurate method for my glass, indeed.
