Types of Posts

I dunno how to categorize things well. Also I haven't combed through all the posts in my inventory so tagging may be inconsistent and things might not appear. I aim to fix this but I'm sleeepy.

Art

art - I use this to describe visual art of any sort

animation - visual art depicting movement by replacing images. Some of these might technically not be animation but have a similar style. My brain don't work. Like a story board.

character portrait - describes art of a character that isn't doing much.

character reference sheet - art of a character that appears meant to describe their physical appearance for others to draw if they wish.

comic - a sequence of events depicted in panels.

couple portrait - describes art of two characters in a romantic relationship interacting in a romantic way.

craft art - something more 3D than most of the stuff under 'art'

duo portrait - describes art of two characters in one image, in either a platonic, familial way, or ambiguous way.

size comparison - exactly what it sounds like; art or a screenshot of more than one character, for the purpose of comparing their height or size.

storyboard - it's a story board. I dunno. A certain style of communication that isn't the same as a full-blown animation or comic.

storytelling - anything that tells a story. Comic, storyboard, portrait with caption, fanfiction, animation, anything.

Game Captures

photo of screen - someone took a photo of the screen with their phone.

video game screenshots - i too tired to explain.

video game cutscene - it's a file of the cutscene taken from a screen recording.

gameplay sharing - screenshots or video that aren't just of cinematic cutscenes. Or text posts describing people's gaming experience.

Text

text post - is exclusively or primarily composed of text.

Long post - is likely to mainly be composed of text or multiple images, and is very long

one-time-i-dreamt - is tumblr's dream-sharing tag. There seems to be a number of KNACK dreams, heheh.

Uncategorized

I'm not the smartest block in the. The shed? Not the brightest bulb for sure. So lots of things can go uncategorized.

ask and answer - anything that uses tumblr's ask feature. Usually asking people about their headcanons, or art requests, etcetera.

gif - it's a gif of anything. animation or screen recorded.

discord screenshot - it's a screenshot from the discord app, people talking about knack or sharing things about it.

video - it's not a gif, but it's anything video. YouTube, TikTok, Tumblr-grown, etc. it could be anything: speedpaints, gameplay, skits, whatever!

Dreaming deserves different categorization from "dreams and nightmares". Some dreams are just uncomfortable but not panic-inducing, and some are enthusiastically wonderful while similar dreams are just... ok.

Proposal (this is not a ranking system):

0. Dreamless - didn't dream; I take meds not to dream; anesthetic uncosciousness

1. Forgotten Dream - can't remember dreaming; can't remember the dream

2. Fever Dream - hallucinations induced by substances or illness; other altered states; often restless sleep

3. Dream - the brain activity happened in sleep [REM]; neutral dream / just a dream

4. Comfortable Dream - pleasant dreaming; dreams that feel good without altering perception of reality [usually]

5. Uncomfortable Dream - unpleasant dreaming; not a nightmare, but not an experience dreamer feels good about

6. Lucid Dream - aware of dreaming; dreamer knows (while dreaming) that they're dreaming

7. Nightmare - a significantly uncomfortable dreaming experience; possibly panic-inducing

8. Wonder Dream - a dreaming experience that feels like magic and/or adventure; these are the most interesting dreams to psychoanalysts (all dreams are, but these ones might feel prophetic or storytelling)

9. Night Terror - sleep paralysis; visceral discomforts, pain, intensity; difficulty waking or moving out of a dreaming/sleeping state; triggers fight, flight, and/or other survival state

This is all just my POV/input, based on personal experience. But it all goes back to my growing disdain for over-generalizing or over-simplifying to the point of vagueness. My poor nervous system needs touchstones and reference points. This helps. Might tweak over time.

For archiving my art:

I scan each artwork I have created throughout my lifetime (and still own or have found in my apartment).

As it is more than (approximately) ~1500 pieces, I chose to print the most important ones (which is like up to ~70% of all drawings).

Then I laminate them.

On the backside I stick labels on the backside of each card - one with the date of creation (year is written with fat pen, then (with thin pen) month and perhaps even the day (if I still know through obscure puzzling togther of random facts and memories.)) and other labels, such as:

- title

- project name

- where I created it

- (accompanied/correlated (formative) life events)

- random associations/memories/facts that pop in my mind when seeing the pic, etc... or

___

Then I archive them in boxes.

In the first box I sort them according to their category of projects.

For that box I had to improve a bit, as, originally, the box was too small if you want to close it with photos in it. As I have two of these I exchanged the top of Box A with the bottom of Box B. This way, 10x15cm large photos fit well in that box.

That's the resulting box:

In the second, larger box, I store the pictures sorted after year of creation.

Every time I write a list of South Park episodes I dislike, I realize that I really need more categories than like or dislike. Half of the episodes I have conflicting feelings on, since there's occasionally one joke that spoils something that could have been great.

A query for categorization professionals

Am I the only person who feels irrationally irked by seeing SKAM fics tagged SKAM (Norway)? It’s the original and the source of all the remakes, shouldn’t it just be SKAM?

I’m interested in a librarian perspective on this. Hit me up, I’m curious if there are categorization rules for this sort of thing.

How about "positive" stereotypes concerning for example a country such as "English Humor" or "French Cuisine"? I've read that categorizing is actually necessary to our minds and that such stereotypes participate in the promoting of a culture. What do you think?

I think you’ve got your concepts all mixed up. I don’t think you have understood the meaning of stereotyping (which I have already explained) if you are now trying to conflate it with categorizing and once again making the same illogical jump from facts to values. We use different words for different things because their meanings differ. 

“Categorizing” is a neutral activity because it is done using only factual information, thus, there are no value judgments made about whether some categories are good, bad, or better than others, unless you take the extra step to provide moral reasoning and justification for such judgments. Cognitively, categorizing is helpful because it allows us to conceptualize information and make sense of the world more efficiently. You can categorize white and black people as being physically different from each other yet refrain from stereotyping them - categorizing and stereotyping are not the same thing. 

If you think positive stereotypes are good, then look up the “model minority” problem as a counter-example. Perhaps you haven’t yet experienced what it’s like to be seriously confined and restricted by the stereotypes that people/society force onto you?

When you use poor/lazy reasoning to treat a person as a mere abstract concept, you run the risk of doing harm because you are more likely to deny their full humanity and interfere with their freedom for authentic self-expression. I don’t think it’s hard to treat people as individuals and to honor whatever social identifiers they want to acknowledge for themselves. If someone chooses to celebrate their English Humor or take pride in their French Cuisine, I will gladly join them. 

However, not every member of a culture engages with their culture the same way. It is presumptuous to impose social identifiers upon individuals who might not want the implicit assumptions/burdens/expectations that come with those labels, which is exactly what stereotyping often does. Imposing on people like this is an obstacle to good relationship and a common catalyst for misunderstandings. There are better ways to promote a culture than stereotyping, if that’s what you want to achieve. When you interact with people mainly through social identifiers, you’re probably not going to see who they really are. Similarly, if you understand yourself only through social identifiers, you probably can’t see who you really are.
