I have a vague plan and lots of prompts and we’re gonna see how many I can fit in here. So, settle in with a cozy blanket, favourite treat, and hot beverage of choice — we are going full Christmas movie holiday magic in this one.

Summary: Edwin tells himself he is content with running his bookshop in solitude, and ignores how that solitude has been shading ever further into loneliness. It’s his own fault he’s alone, after all. But as winter deepens and the holiday season approaches, he saves an injured cat and brings it home out of the cold…

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* When Edwin was younger, he was often alone but seldom lonely, despite having no friends save those in his beloved books. But the books never chided or teased him, and always invited him into their world, and in many ways he never felt the lack of company from others his age.

What a difference a few years of a having a friend made.

But that thought is the first step down a road Edwin refuses to think about. He locks away the ache and concentrates on keeping his footing on snow-slick concrete, instead.
